Baker College Online - BBA —

Baker online is a waste of time.  Teachers at Baker don't need to have a master degree to teach and those that even have a master or higher do not even understand what they are teaching.  You are required to post twice a day with "meaningful" post that can be loosely translated by any teacher.  Along with them adding any policy they want without it being in the handbook or on any where on the Baker website.  You can't even challenge the teaching without fear of reprocussion.  If you disagree with the teacher on a certian topic or opinion, they will automatically start marking your grades down from A's to C's or even worse, to failing.  You will always be wrong whether is you are actually right or not.  The office staff never helps you or gets back to you in a timely fashion.  Student aid will not help explain loans or tell you how much you need so you in the dark the whole time.   The pure laziness Baker shows is upsetting and horrible.  Do not waste your money here.

I know I just posted, but reading some of these posts, you guys and gals are nuts! You don't need 94% to get a B- PoSaoNi, are you illiterate? Show me a screen shot of where it says that info. And blaming your problems on "older, overweight white males"? What are you doing here, besides lowering my expectations of this forum? You should not type ridiculous things in a forum out of frustration. You are not making Baker look stupid, just yourself.

I attend Baker and I was googling complaints for fun. I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience, but it's obvious most of your trouble is your own fault. I understand my Financial Aid before I sign on the dotted line (common sense) and I have taken 112 credit hours without any instructors sabotaging my grades. Baker Online is valuable for people who are dead set on making more than $9 an hour for the rest of their lives. Don't knock a great program because you're lazy!

I am an online student, studying for a BBA in accounting. The one thing that I am very concerned about is the career services at Baker. I looked at a list of companies attending the yearly job fairs, and not one public accounting firm was present. Not for 2009, and when I looked into it, not 2008 or 7 either! And my other complaint is that they refuse to help me write my resume. They will email suggestions to me, but I can't sit down with someone and have it looked at while I am there. So I will continue at Baker, but will have to be a guest student at at least one other college. I know Walsh will let me use their career services as a guest student. MSU will not. I will be checking with other colleges and attending their career fairs, if possible.

Yes I think you are right, if we don't fit who they like the fail us. I have to say about your online grades, you can petition them. I am in the process now of doing so. They were really salty to me when I asked how to do this. But I am sure once they see the proof I will be sure to get a better grade. I took access online, and you have hmwk, test and exams. I got a 100% on all of them. What I was marked down for is for question based on my opinion. How can you mark someone for that? It says if you post 5 days out of the week, and 2 post a day your good. I post all the time, and I write a decent amount. Not 1 or 2 sentences. And my grades on the work was all 100% I would say I clearly show I understand it. But ended up with a C.

I have to say maybe why you haven't had a problem is because you fit what they want. Like where I go, I seem to notice they get in good with older, overweight, white males students. They all seem to love the school too. Then they start to tell me maybe I should go talk to those students, to find out more how to get in the program. I don't want to go to a student about my issues with the school, so he can get me some help.

Some of the stuff they are saying, happen to me. I pay 925.00 for a science class of 5 credits. I know there grading scale is higher also. Meaning to get a B- I need 94% I thought Bs where in the 80s. Also they say in the program that if you take the class more than once to get the grade you need, depending on which program the class will not count. I have taken A+P 1, 3 times. I have a passing grade for the first time, withdraw from the 2nd when I knew I wasn't getting the B- and this semester I did not get a B- either. Now I can't get into the program even if I repeat the class and do get the B-. I paid 925.00 each class plus books because I switch campus I need different supplies. All of this for nothing, because I am trying to find a college that will take my transfers (43 credits) from Baker but for some reason Baker is not a credited college. They gave me this big dream ideal, because I had brain surgery a few years back, they told me not to give up and they would help me with special needs. What ever I ask for they say no. Example one time I had a teacher offer practice tests online for A+P. Well this semester she is not teaching the class, but others are. And all of them happen to not offer the practice test. Come to find out, all the teacher has to do is turn it on. But it is their choice. So I ask the dean of science to open it up for me and she said it was up to the teacher. Why not offer it every time every class for those who want/need the extras. I wasn't asking anything that I didn't get before from them. Also I am going to a campus that does not have my program, so when going in to talk to them about advice, no one wants to talk to me, or help me. I feel left alone at Baker, no real support. Only words. What I think they mean by this being a good school for parents, older, working full time people, is that the classes lasts 10 weeks. Other than that, I don't think that this is made for older adults even those you see us there.

I have also been a victim to their ridiculous online classes. First and foremost the expectations are so high nobody can earn a decent grade. I graduated from a community college with a 3.7 GPA..and now at Baker I have a 2.0. Is it pure coincidence that when I take a campus class I manage a B or better and an online class gets me a C if I am lucky! Most of the online teachers aren't even located in the United States! I have worked my butt off in theses classes over and over....spending hours researching an assignmnent only to be lucky to get a few lousy points. I am 33 years old with 4 children so obtaining my degree is serious business to me! In my opinion Baker is in the business of giving you failing or lousy grades so that you have to spend more money & re-take the course. I will be sure to transfer out of there asap.

Your comment confuses me because I have taken many classes @ Baker online and all of my teachers have held at least a Masters Degree. In fact, I am taking two Health Sciences classes right now and both of my teachers have a Doctorates. You obviously had a very bad experience with Baker and that sucks, but their instructors are highly educated and experienced so your dead wrong when it comes to that! The classes are time consuming and most of them do require you to post quite often but I have received an excellent education from them so I have no complaints. I graduate this year and I already have a job lined up.

I recieved my BBA from Baker in 2008 and am currently a full time Grad student with them. have never found anything you are accusing them of to be true. They have been more than helpful, teachers ARE required to have at least a Masters degree (except for a few classes that are to build upon one's understanding of how the blackboard works and how to find employment). All the core and majors are taught by educated and very experienced Professors. These Professors know what they are talking about and are always more than helpful. I am so sad that you left with this perception of the school. I'm so sorry this happened to you!

A very strange group they do not accept the governors grant either. They are in it for the money not the student. An inept organization with the graduation going from from 27% to 15%.

Baker college is a scam and when you have people who come on here and defend them its just children of the staff who get what they want. I graduated with a 3.2 gpa and when i wanted to start my bachelors degree they tried keeping my smart grant from me. Maybe other baker college schools are good but not the one in Owosso, Michigan. Is it just coincidence that only females work there? How come there are no males in the offices? The place is a rip off and when you take courses that they don't have instructors for they let students who are one class ahead of you teach. I will never attend this joke college again. I'm so glad to see students enrolling just so they can get loans and then quit. Finally the people get something back after the college takes so so much.
