Backwoods Cutter Mosquito Repellent - Unscented 6oz. —

Living in the country is great we have birds, rabbits, squirrels and unfortunately Mosquito's! They just love to breed in standing water and wait for you under leaves and tall grass. That makes where I live a perfect place for them to thrive, but I found a way to keep them away.

Backwoods Cutter Mosquito Repellent

This works very well when applied before going out in the yard. It is unscented and is also water resistant. So when you start sweating it stays where t is and keeps on working. We always use this when we are out in the yard especially close to dawn or dusk as the mosquitoes are very active then.

I also spray my hat and shoes with it too give me an extra edge against getting bit by mosquitoes. It is not however 100% and the real determined ones will land on you anyway. I just swat them and go about my business. It works well if you are in the middle of the yard but when you get around the trees on the west side of our yard is when they will still come after you. More of a defense measure I am sure as you are invading their space.

Bottom Line

For most normal applications this works very well, however with a large population and tall grass or standing water it is average in keeping you safe from mosquitoes. Since it doesn't seem to work in extreme conditions I can only rate this a 3 star as others seem to work the same out here in the country.

In response to Katrena's comment from Aug 31, 2008 at 9:30PM:

I have used both but the latest one I reviewed was Picaridin, which I bought because my oldest daughter is pregnant. It worked so so for her but not for me......;)

Me again--I checked the Cutter website, and it looks like the backwoods Cutter (is this the one you had?)has DEET rather than picaridin like the sport version that I tried. I think you may be right about body chemistry having an effect on how these things work, but I tend to be a real mosquito magnet and found the sport version to work really well in a campground in the woods at the beach. The mosquitoes there were merciless. Just thought you might want to check your can to see if it was the deep woods or sport. Thanks for reading so many of my reviews!
