Back to Basics Toaster - Egg and Muffin 2 Slice - TEM-500 —
I love poached eggs as I can do away with the grease from frying and like the way they taste much better. I have a 4 egg stove top poacher but with myself being the only poached egg eater it is a hassle too use. My wife found this little gem and gave it to me for Christmas and I love it.How it works
The Egg & Muffin toaster comes with a measuring cup marked with the degree of doneness you desire from runny center to fully cooked. The measuring cup also has a little piercing needle to break the yolk if you want too. I like mine runny so that part is useless too me...lol I guess it would be nice if you wanted your egg scrambled.
You need to spray the egg cup with a cooking spray to keep it from sticking, then just crack your egg into the cup. After dumping the measured water in the steamer tray, place the grated separater in next, then your egg cup. Now you also have another tray that your meat sets on, if your warming up ham or steak it goes on this grate. Last but not least you place the dome lid on top. Put your bread, muffin or bagel in the slots, press down the lever and push the button marked with the bread and egg symbol and walk away. In about 4 minutes or less (depending on your preference for doneness of the egg), the unit pops up the bread/muffin/bagel and everything is done. Now put it together and enjoy!!
I just do toast and a poached egg (runny yolk) so mine is done in about 2 1/2 minutes. I love this thing and think it is the best thing since sliced bread. My wife feels real good because she had hoped I would like it and it is easy to clean. This is the first time anyone ever gave me a kitchen appliance for Christmas, but I am glad she did.
Once your done eating (I do it soon as it is cooked) Just take a paper towel and wipe the steamer tray dry as well as the dome lid. Then simply put the other parts in the sink to wash later or on the top rack of the dishwasher. Just as easy as that and you have cooked your meal and cleaned up after yourself.
As I mentioned briefly above you have a lever to push down the bread. You also have 4 buttons that control the cooking portion. You have your bread/muffin/bagel only button, then a bread/muffin/bagel and egg/meat button and last an egg only button. The fourth button is a cancel button. You also have your light/dark control to get your toast the way you like it.
I also tried a little experiment with this today, I scrambled the egg and added a little cheese to it. I put the amount of water in that was between runny and hard cooked (I like my scrambled eggs a little soft) Pushed the egg only button and about 3 minutes later I had a perfect little round cheese omelet.
The egg cup is large enough to fit 2 large eggs into or 1 egg, cheese and a few extras for a western omelet if you like. I plan on experimenting more with this thing to see what I can come up with. After all the redneck in me requires I find at least a few extra uses for it.
Bottom Line
I am not sure how they make it work the way it does but it is ingenious to say the least. Every time I have used this the steamer tray is almost dry with only a few drops of water left behind. The eggs and toast have come out perfect as well This is the perfect little appliance to fix your own egg mcmuffin at home with and it takes only a few minutes to cook. That means you can do away with the grease from the fast food joints and enjoy a healthier breakfast any time you please. A little warning while using this product....There is a hole in the top dome to allow steam to escape, don't put your face directly above it or allow a child to do so! You could get burned very badly from the heat of the escaping steam!!
