They tried to make me go to rehab — I said no, no, no. — That might be the hook of the summer. — Amy Winehouse's sophomore record Back To Black is a breath of fresh air in today's R&B music scene. Who is Amy Winehouse you might ask? Amy Winehouse is a 23 year old songstress from North London with a huge voice and a throwback style to R&B music of yesteryear. — 3 Things To Remember —… read full review »

I picked up Back To Black by Amy Winehouse over the summer because I had heard the buzz about her and a trusted family member totally endorsed the CD.  Sold. — Wow! Amy isn't like anything you've heard before.  Her voice is strong, true, and, not what you'd expect from her.  The first few times I heard "Rehab" on the radio, I thought I was listening to a middle-aged African-American woman.  Never in a zillion years would I have guessed that the voice was coming from a twenty-something white Jewish girl.  — Clearly, Back To Black is inspired by 50's girl… read full review »

Stories of alcohol abuse and irreverence are usually the talk of male recording artists, with Courtney Love being the only exception to the rule. Enter Amy Winehouse, a British songstress who embodies the individualism of Pink, the brash of a younger Madonna, the soul of Erykah Badu, and the spirit of 1960's jazz singers on Back To Black. T — The animated nature of Back To Black is rarely seen these days because there is a certain stigma that goes along with it when it's attached to an entertainer. Nevertheless, Amy Winehouse embraces any comparison the media and listening public has… read full review »

This album is excellent. That is the best word I can think of to describe it - excellent. It's a fresh sound, yet old school. When listening to it, you feel like you are listening to an old friend, but it's something you've never had before. — Amy Winehouse's vocals are unusual and intriguing; the lyrics are entertaining and the music is addictive. You won't want her to go to rehab after the end of the first track, too! —… read full review »

This is a fabulous album.  There isn't one song I dislike.  It has a retro feel to it, with more contemporary subject matter.  I consider this my "break up" music.  I saw her live (yes, she actually showed up - shocking!) and she definitely did NOT disappoint...even though she is kind of a… read full review »

By far this cd is the best release of 07 for me. I was already familiar with Amy but when she came out with her follow-up Back To Black(NOTE: It is her first stateside release....her very first cd it titled Frank)I was completely blown away by how she totally changed directions saluting the old school time honored r&b of the 60's. If I had one complaint it would be that the cd is to short.....beyond that each of these lush, tight tunes give a full gritty, raw performance keeping you hooked from start to finish. The standout track for me has to be Wake Up Alone......with it's distant backing… read full review »

This fine gal is seemingly channeling a retro soulful singer through these modern times. The combination is undeniably penetrating. The whole album is superbly impressive. I watched Winehouse sing solo on Youtube with just a microphone , it seems to come pouring out of her effortlessly. Winehouse sounds like no one else, yet sounds so familiar. Her voice is deep, rich and confident. She has a natural edge and fills her lyrics with unabated self confessions. I had bought her previous album (Frank) and wasn't sure if it was going to be as stylized as this one, but it was! If you saw her video… read full review »

I first heard Amy Winehouse through a British friend that owned her debut album "Frank" (which incidently was finally released for sale in the U.S. within the last few months). I immediately fell in love with her musical style and vocals. Her raw, open lyrics hit on both humor and pain in a way that makes the listener appreciate real music...as once was the style of old Blues, Soul, and Jazz artists of the past. Despite the trainwreck that many view Amy Winehouse to currently be, her music opens the eyes to something more powerful...her talent.… read full review »

Wow! Amy Whinehouse is a new voice in R&B in the US that brings her own style and uniqueness to the music industry. The European artist came out to America in a bang, "Back To Black" has a very similar sound to Billie Holiday, a black history moguel. If you love music you will love this cd, music is unique and the more we create new sounds and creations, the more our eyes open up to new ideas. The music industry is changing, we don't have to change with it just adapt to it and open our minds to a new decade of music.… read full review »

I just think this is overall a great CD. I love every track on it! It's very rare for me to find music lately that I really enjoy, but Amy has a fantastic voice and I love the vibe of the album. Very soulful. There isn't one bad track on the CD. I definately want to check out her first album, "Frank," which is being re-released soon. I've heard that the sound on that album is much different than "Back to Black," but I'd still like to check it out.… read full review »

This album was very good, but I think that it was a little overrated. Not as overrated as Radiohead's In Rainbows , but overrated none the less. Most of the songs have catchy lyrics, but I think that the instrumentation is what this makes this album shine. The Dap Kings have been her backing band on previous stints and some of them came back to help record this album, so I give props to… read full review »

Outstanding. She has one of the most distinct voices I have heard in the last 10 years; I love the combination of humour and soul. Have you ever heard the stunning opener, Rehab? That opening line on her album - "they try to make me go to rehab/I say no, no, no" is just great. So... forget all the media buzz apart from her singing and listen this great disc. —… read full review »

Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" is one of my top 10 albums of 2007.  I can play this disc over and over without getting tired of ANY of the tracks.  Being able to play a CD from start to finish is a huge plus in my book, and this one definitely takes one of the top prizes in that area.  Musically inventive , vocally intriguing, and lyrically… read full review »

This is a great album. Although, there is some bad language it isn't too much to hear swearing every few words. It is just an amazing gift for someone who likes r &b. Some people say that they can't understand what she is saying or that her voice is kind of raspy and annoying, but I don't feel that way about it. — —… read full review »

Amy Winehouse might be a wreck right now but let me tell you her songs and music are AMAZING!!!! Every song on her CD has a story. Some songs have bad language in them but this CD shouldn't be for children without parental supervision. Amy Winehouse totally deserved all the awards she won over the… read full review »
