They tried to make me go to rehab
I said no, no, no.
That might be the hook of the summer.
Amy Winehouse's sophomore record Back To Black is a breath of fresh air in today's R&B music scene. Who is Amy Winehouse you might ask? Amy Winehouse is a 23 year old songstress from North London with a huge voice and a throwback style to R&B music of yesteryear.
3 Things To Remember
I picked up Back To Black by Amy Winehouse over the summer because I had heard the buzz about her and a trusted family member totally endorsed the CD. Sold.
Wow! Amy isn't like anything you've heard before. Her voice is strong, true, and, not what you'd expect from her. The first few times I heard "Rehab" on the radio, I thought I was listening to a middle-aged African-American woman. Never in a zillion years would I have guessed that the voice was coming from a twenty-something white Jewish girl.
Clearly, Back To Black is inspired by 50's girl groups. You need only to listen to one--any...
review »Stories of alcohol abuse and irreverence are usually the talk of male recording artists, with Courtney Love being the only exception to the rule. Enter Amy Winehouse, a British songstress who embodies the individualism of Pink, the brash of a younger Madonna, the soul of Erykah Badu, and the spirit of 1960's jazz singers on Back To Black. T
The animated nature of Back To Black is rarely seen these days because there is a certain stigma that goes along with it when it's attached to an entertainer. Nevertheless, Amy Winehouse embraces any comparison the media and listening public has for her. The...
review »This album is excellent. That is the best word I can think of to describe it - excellent. It's a fresh sound, yet old school. When listening to it, you feel like you are listening to an old friend, but it's something you've never had before.
Amy Winehouse's vocals are unusual and intriguing; the lyrics are entertaining and the music is addictive. You won't want her to go to rehab after the end of the first track, too!
Outstanding. She has one of the most distinct voices I have heard in the last 10 years; I love the combination of humour and soul. Have you ever heard the stunning opener, Rehab? That opening line on her album - "they try to make me go to rehab/I say no, no, no" is just great. So... forget all the media buzz apart from her singing and listen this great disc.
This is a great album. Although, there is some bad language it isn't too much to hear swearing every few words. It is just an amazing gift for someone who likes r &b. Some people say that they can't understand what she is saying or that her voice is kind of raspy and annoying, but I don't feel that way about it.
