I have 3 kids and have had my tubes tied for a little over 2 years now. The first year after having my tubes burnt and tied off I felt regret like I was completely useless now. I do want more kids but know I don't want that responsibility again of raising a newborn and have come through the depression of feeling worthless. Has anyone else gone through a deppressive stage after getting their tubes tied and knowing you cannot have anymore children....

Pitcherday, it wasn't you that made me feel that my opinion was wrong.  I think you and I are having a good conversation and I want you to know I respect your opinions and decisions.  I agree, anyone who has sex takes the chance.  Hence why I waited til I was married.

I'm not saying that no one needs surgery.  I am only speaking of myself.  I don't need it, nor want it.  My statement that all my family and friends stopped having kids was that they did not need surgery either.  When they were done, they were done and took pills or whatever.  Basically, I don't know anyone who has had the surgery and these are the people I rely on when it comes to big decisions such as this.  I tend to learn from the experience of my friends and family.

I know you personally don't want children, and it's fine for you to do what you felt you wanted to do.  I just hope no one of any age takes it lightly.  Especially younger people who's opinions can change over time.

I just want to make it clear that when any of us give our opinion of what we would do in our own lives, I do not believe we are trying to dictate how the world as a whole should do it.  At least that's not what I am trying to do.

Michele, a friend of mine from high school, who was married to another friend of mine, had two daughters with her then-husband when she got it into her head that she just had to adopt his grandkids.  Her stepson and his wife were both into alcohol and drugs, neither of them held steady jobs, and DCF was already in the process of taking custody of the three kids (a six-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy and a six-week-old baby boy).

Michele was then 36, still very attractive and of course shared a very healthy romantic life with her hubby, so in order to prevent more pregnancies, she had her tubes tied and cauterized as well.  And at the time she was happy with her decision.  She got her wish, she and her hubby adopted the kids as their own, and for a while everything went well.

I'm not privy to what happened a few years later, and even if I was I'd not tell the whole world, but after a while the marriage soured and she divorced (nastily, too) her now-ex husband and ran off to New England.  Part of it was, I'm sure, caused by regret and post tubal-ligation depression that later surfaced.
