Do you feel that a woman should be induced or wait and go into labor naturally?

It depends on the situation and what is the best for the mother and child. Are you an expectant mother?

It truly does depend.  WIth my last child I was scheduled for induction simply because I had so many complications and it was important NOT to go past my due date. However nature didn't cooperate even with the induction and I ended up waiting till nature took it's course (I personally think they scared the little darling out of me) As finally they scheduled me for a C-section just to make sure complications didn't continue *course then ya got a whole new set of them!*

Listen to your body and your physician.  With #3 we did schedule and induction and being the accomodating child she is she actually "induced" herself that morning.

I would say as natural as possible.  There are situations where sometimes a little assistance is necessary but I don't believe that it should be scheduled as baby and nature really do know what they are doing in the whole thing.  I had a friend recently who was technically 2 weeks over due which is now really a big no-no in the OB community.  Bbay was born this past weekend at a normal healthy weight.  Often they don't believe they could be wrong about the date, which is sometimes an arbitrary date based on what you can vaguely remember from the month or two prior.

With my second I was scheduled but never made it to the appt as I had him about 5 hours prior.  During that labor though they did recommend a small drip of pitocin as my labor had stopped progressing.

I didn't want to be induced, but after going 2 1/2 weeks over with my 9' 10 oz (23" long) son, the doc said he needed to come out -- and he wasn't in any hurry to do so!  Sometimes it's necessary.  Induction was the only drug I had.  Even as large as he was, I was all natural and a very hard delivery.  It's easy to say all natural if you are having a tiny baby.  My daughter was the same way - 2 weeks late.  I tried the epidural and it didn't take, so again, as natural as I could, except for the induction.

It depends completely on the mother and her pregnancy! For me it was perfect for my first birth. The second he did all the work and came out quick!

My first was 3 weeks early and very healthy, my second was a little late and needed pitocin. It really depends, but I think most of the time, your baby and body know what is best. Due dates are only estimates. Hopefully you trust your Dr enough to have a talk about the risks and benefits. Getting induced is no picnic and my 2nd ended up in distress.  It all turned out ok, but there are risks involved.

I agree - it all depends but I am a firm believer that anyway a baby comes into the world is natural.

I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes it may become medically necessary for mom and baby.

I don't have kids, but my mother-in-law was 48 and insulin-dependent diabetic with her last (surprise) pregnancy, so they induced as soon as it was safe for Sara to come out. She ended up needing a C-section anyway, but I think yes induce if there is some circumstance like that. Otherwise, I have no opinion...

I was twice... and it went very fast.  Very hard on the body to go that fast... and took longer to heal for me.

I was induce one week before baby was to come out.  I had a special circumstanced where I had to get induced.

I did not want to be induced the second time but had to.

i was induced both times with my boys the first time i had to because i had Toixcema and the 2nd time i was in labor for a month and the baby was ready but my water would not break on its own so they had to induce me....so yes there is some things you just have to do and if ever given the opinion i would do it again. Its just all up to you and your body, if your Dr. said you mite need to be induced and your not sure you need to be the talk to him or her and let them know how you feel about the hole thing.....but in some cases your Dr. knows Best but just talk with them and they can tell you every thing you need to know and should know.

It totally depends on the situation my daughter had to be induced because her baby was not moving around like he should but the inducing only stressed him out till they had to do a emergency c-section so if you have to be induced due to medical problems go for it but other wise let nature takes it course. I have actually heard of people inducing just because they had things planned and its not worth the risk if you ask me.

As everyone said , it is very dependent on the situation. With my first son, I went into labor and had him with no drugs of any kind after about 8 hours of labor. He was 8 1/2 pounds.

With my second son, my water broke early and I was not in labor at all. My doctor had me go to the hospital and I was barely dilated. We waited but labor was not forthcoming so they decided to induce it because of the threat of infection when water breaks and the baby doesn't come soon after. (That was 19 years ago so that thinking may have changed now.)

I HATED it but took no other medication and eventually had my son who was also 8 1/2 pounds. Man, that was painful going from no pain to hard labor. But all was well. My son was healthy, I was fine, and the painful memories of 22 hours of induced labor are, um, kinda forgotten. lol.

I truly believe you have to trust the doctor when it comes to these things and do what's safest for the baby and the mom.

I totally agree- once in a while conditions are such that it may be necessary [for the health of the mother or child] to intervene. Every pregnancy is different but most of the time nature knows best in the long run...

I was induced, and I think it was right for me. Not only did I feel better about getting to plan things, since it was my first, it was a lot less stress. While a generally healthy person, I had gestational disbetes, and we were concerned about the baby getting to large, since I am a pretty small person, and my having to maybe get a C section. Another concern for me, was I wanted to make sure I had MY doctor, and not someone I'd never had poking around on me delivering me child, so we went ahead and scheduled, and it was all fine. Personally, I'd do it again next time, if everything worked out, because then I could plan everything out, knowing what to do with my first born, and so on.

I think it depends on your situation and your doctor, I was induced for my first child  but I went into labor naturally for my second, I did however have an easier delivery with my first child that was induced, she was a smaller baby but I think the doctor was more prepared for delivery, with my second child the doctor didn't make it to the hospital before I delivered my son. It wasn't the same doctor though either.

really depends... I think only if there is some necessity (health reason or over a week past due date)

But if a woman is induced they need to take their time and not rush it.. and she needs to stay informed about whats going on.

I have been induced with 2 of my labors and with the first they over did the petocin an I had hemmoraging as a result. I had impatient docs and nurses. second time around was no problem, but I was also on top of what whas going on and made sure they let neture do its thing in due time as well.

I have four children and all four of them were induced. My first baby I had complications with and had to be induced two weeks before my due date. He can in 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. My second one I was in labor with for 3 month so they finally induced me again 2 weeks before my due date, he came in 1 1/2 hours. My third baby since the other two were so fast they wanted to induce so we knew we would be there in time since I lived an hour away from my hospital. Good thing we did cause he came in 45 mins. Same with the fourth they were wanting to set up an inducetion due to the fast labors. However she came 2 days later!! After the induction. So my advice is to talk to your doctor and see what they think is best for the two of you. And if this is your first baby I would advise to wait it out and go naturally cause my experience with my fourth was incrediable. Good luck and best of wishes to you.

With my first I had to be induced due to pre-eclampsia around 8 months in the pregnanfce. With my second I had a c-section. Induction can really save lives if necessary, and I really listen to the doctor to avoid any problems.

The only real issues with induction is that it gives you false contractions - it's VERY harsh compared to natural contractions, which work with your body to give birth. My friend has had one of both (natural and induced) and she agreed that the induction birth was painful and long compared with her natural birth.

I think it is best to go into labor naturally, I have had six children and have gone 2 weeks over and have never been induced. I think that it is up to the Doctor and if it's medically needed then that would be fine!

I think that it depends on the woman, the situation, and the doctor. I know that some doctors like to induce if they are going out of town or a Holiday is approaching etc, just so they will be there when you deliver & you don't have to worry about the on call dr delivering your baby, which IMO is a good thing, my sister in law went on her own & had to have the on call dr & it scared her, and it was her first child, and I was induced with my first 2 because of medical reasons, my very first I had no options, my second I was having a lot of problems & had been in constant pain for over a month, my last 2 I opted for induction because it seemed like I never could go on my own.
