I didn't know I was going to write a review on this product but while reading a review this came up on the side and I recalled that I was around one for the past few days.
While at my best friend's house we had the pleasure of babysitting her grandchildren. Sometimes we would have just the two younger ones (6 mos. and 2 1/2 yrs.) and other times we would have all four which also included a 5 and 9 year old. The baby is just now trying to sit up on his own and trying to scoot forward like he's attempting to crawl. Many times he is being held or lying in a bouncy seat.
Well, last Wednesday we were going to have him and his older brother (2 1/2) for the entire day because both Mommy and Daddy had to work on Christmas Eve. The mother brought this Baby Einstein bouncy seat to my friend's house. What a relief because I was wondering how we were going to get through the entire day.
The baby absolutely loved this seat. The frame is very sturdy so there is no chance that the baby will flip it over. This is not a walker--it is a stationery seat. The baby has the ability to move within the perameters of the frame but does not move the frame. The seat is in the center of the frame and the baby can move it 360 degrees. If you can imagine a square from front to back then you can see two arches on the frame. Each arch has several gadgets and stuffed animals hanging from it. Babies will pull and tug at each thing. One is an elephant looking character with really long legs. On all four sides of the frame are extra gadgets and play things. One side had a mini-piano with four really large keys. The baby pushes a button and music begins. Our baby was loving the tune to the Lone Ranger. It was so fast that he would just start kicking his legs and squirming with delight. Another area that our baby loved was the mirror. Once he made his way to that side of the frame and found the mirror he was mesmerized. He would lay his head on the mirror so he could really see his face and then he would make these giggling like noises. Each side is like a different station. Little children are learning hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills and this seat gives them the opportunity to learn, explore and enhance those skills. From spinning balls, to tug and pull toys, music and light up features. This is an educational product for a baby and makes for a great investment.
The Baby Einstein seat has enough toys on it that a baby is easily entertained for hours. A disadvantage to this seat is the size. If you are limited with space then this probably isn't the thing for you because it pretty big. It's also not very compact or portable. Once you get it assembled it's not the kind of baby seat that you will be packing up and taking with you when on the go. It's more of a permanent fixture until the baby outgrows it.
I don't know how much the seat cost because I didn't buy it. I did however see it advertised online for $80-90 depending on which company you shopped at. My friends got their seat from Toys-R-Us when their first son was born. He is almost 3 and because he is wirey he can still get in it but we try to discourage that.
The Baby Einstein seat isn't intended to be a babysitter for your baby but it is very convenient when your arms get tired or you need to free up your hands for other chores. We were able to do stuff in the kitchen and see him playing in the den. I was also able to lay on the couch and watch TV while he played.
If I was pregnant or had a younger baby I would put this on my wishlist. It makes a great mother's or babysitter's companion and hey, if the baby can get that much enjoyment out of it great!
