Baby Center —

I know it sounds counterintuitive for a grandmother to find the need to check out a parenting website, but trust me it does make sense.  Like most grandmothers, I often have pearls of child rearing wisdom to impart on my daughter, based on my own experiences in raising her.  However, there are times when grandma simply doesn't know best nor does she have any idea what to do about a situation.

Believe it or not, my own daughter never had a single temper tantrum as a toddler, so it was never an issue for me.  Aside from suggesting a visit from the "Supernanny," I had no idea what would work best for the "tantrum phase" my grandson briefly went through when he hit the terrible twos last year.  Luckily, the good folks at BabyCenter.com have created an enormous library of articles, with a wide-ranging community of parents and professionals to create one of the best parenting resources on the Web.

Baby Center.com has it all - from pregnancy to birth, to infancy, preschool, and beyond - this website probably can help you.  The articles are written in an easy and straightforward manner and generally provide various points of view.  As in life, there are rarely one-size-fits-all answers to parenting situations and this website reflects that reality.  Rather than forcing one point of view as the only correct way to handle a situation, BabyCenter.com offers several appropriate suggestions, and members contribute ideas that have worked for them.

In addition to helping get your child successfully through a phase, BabyCenter.com offers a weekly development update based on your child's age.  For example, the weekly email, Your Preschooler This Week, describes milestones my grandson should have reached (he has!) as well as suggestions for ways to keep him progressing in social, physical, emotional, and educational ways.

BabyCenter.com is a valuable resource for a first-time parent who needs tons of advice, as well as for experienced parents who know successful strategies they'd like to share with others.  It's also good for grandmothers who need an occasional refresher course.  Let's face it - it's been a long time since I had a two year old!

My daughter had tantrums for a while but we were also able to read up about how to handle them and it really worked! My son is going on 2 and he is starting this phase too. UGGH! LOL I am pregnant again so I am signing up for this site right now. I love the pregancy timeline too! Thanks for the review!

So sorry to hear about your cousin. I will give my daughter an extra bear hug when I see her next. She turned out extremely well, but I know that life is not always so kind. I've learned never to take anything (or anyone) for granted.

I blog here every once in awhile and the emails do give me great ideas for new toys for the girls.

I'm glad the rough times were just a phase for you. I have a cousin that was such a beautiful person but started down the wrong path and never made it back. She died a few months ago in her 20's. Her two children are the same ages as two of mine. Hug your daughter the next time you see her.

Oh...it was only easy until she hit age 13 so I didn't really get away scot-free LOL. The preteen years were the most challenging to me - luckily that phase didn't last long. :)

I wouldn't know what to do with "easy" children. The 6-year-old is sneaky. The 4-year-old is jealous. The 10-month-old is already carrying the plastic step stool to an area that she knows has stuff that's too high for her to reach otherwise and she will now climb up and reach whatever treasure I thought I put out of reach. UGH! Sounds like a good website. Thanks for the info.

How'd you get out without temper tantrums? So doesn't seem fair :) My little guy isn't too bad, more of a quick cry if he doesn't get his way. I too like Baby Center... definitely like the weekly updates, it's nice for an infant to kind of track where baby is.

My girls didn't pull too many temper tantrums either--luckily. Nice review of a helpful website for parents!
