Quick View: I hate to be contrary when so many people are high on a website but I have been having nothing but trouble with  and I wanted to share my experience. It may be an isolated one but it still caused me a LOT of headaches!

About Avon.com

I'm not a big fan of Avon products in general but, every now and then, I make an order when they have sales or gifts with purchase. I recently went to the site to make an order and, after an hour and a half of carefully choosing my products, I was unable to complete my transaction due to a website error. Disgruntled, I clicked off the site.

The next day, I tried again. I spent a lot of time choosing what I wanted and this time, I was able to pay for my order. But  I didn't get a confirmation email. I was worried about that so I wrote to Avon.com's customer service asking if they received my order. The answer was no, they had not. They instructed me to reorder. Sigh.

The next day, I went back and reordered things, switching up a few items. This time the order went through and I got a confirmation email. Progress!

Just as I thought my issues were behind me, CS wrote me an email saying that they had two orders for me, made a day apart. They said if I didn't want one to refuse it when it was delivered. The problem was, the two orders weren't exact and I wanted the second order I made. They told me that the first order made would come first and the second next. Refuse the first one. Allrighty then,

The first order came and I didn't touch the box. I wasn't home to refuse the shipment from UPS but planned to go to UPS to return the box. The next day, another order arrived. I opened that one since that was (in theory) the one I wanted to keep. But it wasn't. It was the FIRST order. For some reason the second order came first and the first order came second and now I was stuck with an opened box of products I didn't want.

I called CS. This girl said to just tape the opened box up and refuse the shipment and I wouldn't be charged shipping back to them. Hmm. I tried to do that but part of the label was torn. I called back and was told, had I done what the first girl said to do, I would have been charged return shipping. Sigh. She said she would send me a free shipping label "as a courtesy". EXCUSE ME? I think I was being courteous not going off on them for instructing me to make a second order then telling me "Oops, we have two orders now."

Adding to my woes, the first box I opened was missing three items and I know Avon will think I took them. I did tell everyone I spoke to about it but it's clear that they don't communicate with one another nor make notes about calls.

I wrote several emails to Avon's customer service and they stopped responding to me completely. I sent them a letter about this whole ordeal and I heard nothing back from them. They wrote me off. Just as I am writing off Avon.com.

If I want Avon products in the future, I'll just go to eBay and get them at near cost from reps. Avon really has nothing I NEED although they have a few items I like. I won't use the site to order again even if I can't find the products elsewhere. The favor of a reply to a customer by email isn't much to ask and yet Avon.com has decided to ignore me. Back at ya, Avon.com!

My Viewpoint

I don't have issues with the products that Avon sells and I haven't had really bad issues shopping on their site. Until now. I would be willing to deal with this in an adult matter (and AM) but the fact that Avon.com sent me on a wild goose chase, made me make a second order, didn't pack the first order right, gave me wrong info twice, and is ignoring my emails leads me to rate the site 1 star. I shop all over the net all the time and, when I am ignored and mislead, I don't go back to a site no matter how wonderful everyone says it is.

I like ordering from a rep as well, the service is more personal and you can try before you buy as long as she or he has samples of their popular items.

There is a rep who wrote me here and I am going to order from her from now on. Some of their products are good. But the website service is iffy and I don't like to chance buying from them.

ApriBambino wrote on Sep 26, 2009 at 8:37PM

Bad customer service is a total turn-off for me as well, it just mbe better to find a rep to order with than deal with inferior CS. You can actually got to Avon.com and find a rep in your area and order from her web site, that's usually what I do and it's worked very well so far; then you can have your items hand delivered from the rep or shipped directly to you.

I agree that Avon cheats their reps out of money. I know one who ends up spending everything she makes on stuff to promote her business. The products are usually fine, I just don't like the website. I am ordering from reps now and the service is so much better.

rockafellaisrip wrote on Aug 22, 2009 at 1:15PM

Avon has great products but some Avon representatives are just clueless and stupid. Plus I don't think Avon is fair with their representatives thats why they treat their customres bad. They get to little of their earnings while Avon request the rest making us a fool. I am a rep not thinking of staying too long in the bussiness just doing it for work experience. Remember Avon does not suck but their bussiness management.

I hate when retailers ignore me! When I shop and spend money on a site, I expect to be acknowledged. I don't go back if customer service isn't good.

stuff4meandyou wrote on Jun 17, 2009 at 7:01PM

Sounds right, so far i have been getting NOTHING from them or any answers to my questions; some sales reps can't answer me, nor will the company... as for the information about that Patty I don't blame you and if they did have a better web page without all of the problems i believe they get somewhere. As for any other sales representative, It wouldn't hurt to help somone because you never know if that person you are helping is either planning on signing or even wanting to place an order and really need a response back; I would expect it.... that's what customer service should be. the price are good but not the help. MaryKay is what i do but even though some of the products are good, some say too costly; if any of the avon reps i have contacted for help with say anything.... it would be much better.

Thanks. I ordered the Planet Spa hand cream and some other AHA cream from the line and they are really rich and nice. I will have to try the scrub. I'll definitely order from you when I make another order.

In response to PattyTherre's comment from May 5, 2009 at 9:32PM:

Use free shipping code REPFS or FSANY

Let me know if you have any problems with those codes. They are usually good all year long for any size order.
Thank you so much! Let me know if you are curious about any new products. I would be happy to mail you samples.

The planet spa African shea butter body scrub is yummy! It smells so good and it's a great foot scrub.

They had a free shipping over $40 special so no. I saw your site and there are some thing from the outlet book I want to order. I rather like that Planet Spa stuff.

Did Avon.com charge you shipping? I have many shipping codes you can use for free shipping. Thanks so much for checking out my site. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

I definitely will check out your site. My son made an order from Avon.com for me and they overcharged him so I am not going back there. I will go to your site now and bookmark it. I did get the new campaign book but haven't looked at it yet.

AvonLadyforyou wrote on May 5, 2009 at 9:53AM

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with Avon.com. Might I make a suggestion? If you order through my website you can get the items for a cheaper price. Avon.com generally does not include current sale prices. Also, if you have any problems I can help you. I have 100% customer satisfaction rating through my website. Please check my website and you will see the difference. i have been selling AVON for over 2 years now and I am a well known, respected "AVON Lady" in my town. Please give AVON another chance.

I used to buy products from AVON.com a long time ago. I'm so sorry you had such an ordeal with the site. I really hate it when a site ignores you. I've had a few websites I will never order from again. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Buggheart wrote on Apr 30, 2009 at 12:07PM

What a pain! I have a local rep and I order online from her and she delivers. I'll stick to that plan rather than deal with having Avon ship it.

In response to LadyMagic's comment from Apr 26, 2009 at 9:57AM:

I think the site usually is OK but if you have an issue, you get a big run around.

LadyMagic wrote on Apr 26, 2009 at 9:57AM

Sorry you went through that. I was thinking of trying some Avon and maybe ordering through the MyPoints site. Your review is making me reconsider.
I did notice at the website that if you have a rep already you can type in their #. However if there is a glitch in a site, my luck has me find it so I think I'll try finding someone local. I like trying samples first so I won't be stuck with something I don't like. Great review, Patty!

You go girl! Who ever you contact is going to want your business, so she will do her best to make you happy. If she doesn't, move on....there are a million Avon reps out there. Have a good night!

I am definitely going through a rep from now on. I will find one in my area or who has a website and deal with her. The human touch is important and I like to give my money to someone who is making a commission rather than a big company who is saving the commission because I shopped through their site.

I never got too much into Avon but they have a few things I like. I'm finding a rep and ordering through her/him. Never the website. I can't find a Mary Kay rep. I used to like some of their products.

PattyTherre wrote on Apr 25, 2009 at 9:24PM

In response to joyjoy's comment from Apr 25, 2009 at 2:58PM:

I am going to do just that. I need a real rep. A human I can talk to and get info from. Plus it helps someone make some money rather than helping Avon to SAVE money by not paying commissions when I order from the site.

PattyTherre wrote on Apr 25, 2009 at 9:22PM

In response to CyndiA's comment from Apr 25, 2009 at 3:30PM:

I am going to find a rep in my area. I like the personal touch anyway and they aim to please. Unlike the website.

CyndiA wrote on Apr 25, 2009 at 3:30PM

The beauty shops here usually have the catalogs with the contact info for someone local. I usually do that. They often have samples too, so you can try a shade of lipstick, for example, before buying a whole tube and then maybe not like it.

joyjoy wrote on Apr 25, 2009 at 2:58PM

Bad service will do it every time. If you go back to avon.com one more time you can search for a representative in your area. Order through her website and you'll get the same deals with lower shipping or have it brought to you for free.

GigiandAdonai wrote on Apr 25, 2009 at 1:31PM

Thanks for the heads up. I think I have ordered once from Avon in 15 years. My mother sold Avon when I was a little girl but Mary Kay reps have a market in my area.

LaurieM wrote on Apr 25, 2009 at 11:07AM

That sounds like complicated mess! So not worth it. I agree.

this2shallpass19 wrote on Apr 25, 2009 at 10:12AM

Nice review! That would be sooo frustrating! I don't shop on their website very often, because I like to give the reps their commission. Probably because I work in direct sales myself and am elated when someone decides to place an order on MY website and not just directly to the main website. Of course there are great deals to be found on eBay and trust me, I take advantage of them :) I think the best deal I ever got was on LipFusion (I'm sure you know how expensive it can be). See if you can find an Avon rep that will give you a deal. I like to gives a % off to my returning customers to reward loyal shoppers. Sorry for babbling :)
