One time I tried Smashbox gel eyeliner because I saw it on QVC and the make up artist made it look so good on the model that it just sucked me in.  So I bought it and it was this tiny little jar of liner and a brush for like $30.  It was really hard to apply, didn't look very good, and was way expensive so I sent it back.

Years later saw Avon's Daring Definition Gel Eyeliner in a catalog and thought it looked similar but much cheaper so I figured I'd give it a try.  I like the concept of a gel or cream eyeliner that applies easily without much tugging on the eye.

Daring Definition is can be ordered on Avon.com or thru an Avon representative and is available in the following shades: Black Brown Pearl, Black Pearls, Brown Pearl, and Navy Pearl.  The pot holds 0.10 ounces of product which doesn't seem like much but a little goes a long way.  I've had mine for months now and have barely used any although I use it frequently. It does not come with a brush and I did not purchase one as I already own a flat eyeliner brush.

I really like this eyeliner. The consistency is kind of like cold margarine - not rock solid but not soft either. To use, I take my flat eyeliner brush and rub it back and forth on the surface of the gel until it builds up a nice layer on the brush. I then drag it lightly across the edge of the pot to smooth the bristles back down and remove any excess from the brush. I then do one of two things to apply it to my eye. I either drag the brush slowly across my top lash line or sort of dab or dot it across the top.

The color I purchased is Brown Pearl which is nice chocolate brown shade. It looks good in the pot as well as on my eyes. The color is very rich. What I didn't realize is that these pearly shades actually contain some glitter that is not seen when the lid is removed. I didn't notice the it until I began to wiggle my brush around in the gel and applied it to my eyelid. I'm not sure I would have purchased this product knowing that it had a shimmery finish, but I do like it. The shimmer is very subtle and not garish at all.  I have since purchased the Black Brown Pearl and Black shades in this eyeliner as I really like it.

It applies easily and smoothly with minimal tugging on the delicate skin around my eyes.  It's a little trickier to apply than a pencil eyeliner but I like the look better and I've gotten used to applying it after using it for several months.

I also like that Daring Definition eyeliner stays put for a long time after I apply it. It seems to set somewhat after application and does not smudge easily nor run down my face if I'm crying or sweating. However it is easily removed with soap and water or makeup remover.

Eye makeup has a shelf life of three months when you began using it. This isn't to make you buy more product but for safety reasons. Avon's products have an antibacterial agent but it is still advisable to change every three months.

I just bought Smashbox's eyeliner. It's the brush that makes all the difference. I think it flakes though. I am not sure if it the liner or the mascara so I have to test it and see. Smashbox isn't bowling me over...BTW I like your hair in that second photo. I have to have that color too...
