Best Cat Food

5

We have been feeding our cat Avoderm for the past 6 years and he LOVES his Chicken and Herring Meal dry food. He is very healthy, and has a shiny, beautiful coat thanks to the Avocados in the food! I highly recommend Avoderm for your cats! It can be expensive; but we buy the large bags and it lasts several months. We just got a new kitten, and she prefers the Avoderm over her kitten food. We can't keep her away from it. Quality of Ingredients excellent quality

Probably the best dry cat food on the market

If I had to pick a dry cat food, this is top of the line. I used it years ago because the ingredients were so high grade and no meal or other fillers was used in it. Over time I've learned that in general dry food is very harmful to cats unless you rehydrate it 4-10 fold. Otherwise, over time, they may develop kidney issues. Cats really need to eat wet food and preferably raw food so that they get 60-70% liquid intake with their meals. Quality of Ingredients As dry foods go, this has the top of line stuff. And the cats don't even know its there. They eat it anyway. Good vitamins have been added. Extra ingredients that you won't find in other dry cats foods are included. Overall, a good choice if dry is what you have to feed your cats. I keep it around for emergency usage (if I can't feed raw) and always put it in a bowl and cover the kibble with water and let it sit until absorbed. At least that way the cats are getting sufficient fluids with their meal.

Cat loves it and so do I!

I adopted a cat about a year and a half ago and when I went to the pet store to buy her some food for the first time I was overwhelmed by all the choices. As I began reading off ingredients I realized that many brand contained by-products and many other things I couldn't pronounce! I thought that if it's something I wouldn't eat myself why would I expect my cat to eat it? So, I brought this home to try since it was one of the few brands that actually had recongizable ingredients and my cat loved it! I also love that it helps keep her coat soft and shiny and we have never had any problems with hairballs!

Shiny coats and no hairballs

We switched to Avoderm to provide our cats with a higher protein diet. Our concerns were digestive issues in the older cat (see my review of Purina Pro Plan) and general health for our younger cat. The older cat is particularly finicky and had shown some trouble tolerating other high-protein dry cat foods. Avoderm contains avocado oil (hence the name), which the product claimed would aid digestion and produce shiny coats. (They out avocado oil in hair products for humans, so why not?) The cats were both uninterested at first. I guess the food must not taste as good as some of the fattier options. We had to cut it with their old food to get them to eat it, but that only took a few days. They're not both eating Avoderm dry food almost exclusively (we don't use wet food) and I must say I have two of the glossiest cats I've ever shared a home with. We've had no issues with hairballs or vomiting food at all. The only down side is that, while the cats willingly eat the food, they do have other dry foods they prefer, so I guess it's not the tastiest food out there.

Avodern has better quality ingredients than most

I wholly agree with nichicaa's review of this product in terms of ingredients, digestion and its use of fillers, however I do believe that Avoderm's products contain at least better QUALITY ingredients than any of the grocery brands. As for other premiums, well, I concur that its use of grains is suspect since cats simply don't digest them. But its Salmon & Brown Rice formula uses salmon as the first ingredient (tho' salmon meal is the 2nd). That's actually the flavor I got for my kitty after he stopped eating the wet food we'd been getting. He like the Avoderm ok--heck, for almost an entire 10-pound bag--but then wouldn't touch it (that's horrendously picky kitty for you, lol!). In fact, what I liked about Avoderm for him was that he didn't eat as much of it as I thought he would (years ago when on Authority, he'd eat that like a horse!) and that 10-lb bag lasted 45 days. Sure, it's pricey, but I expected it would be because of the premium all natural ingredients, tho' with its use of so many grain fillers (whether whole or not), it shouldn't cost as much, IMHO.
