Most HelpfulI made a reservation online for a vehicle to be picked up on Monday, 3/23/09. I had confirmation with a base rate of $198.54 per day, with a total rental charge of 255.38 per day, including taxes and fees. When I got to the Milwaukee airport, Pam, at the rental counter, informed me that the car...
read full review »I recently used Avis for an Internatonal Business Trip, I was sent to France for two weeks and last minute needed to extend the reservation on my car. The location I picked the car up from was two hours from where I was staying out in the country. I tried calling repeatedly and everytime there was no answer. The site stated that the location should be open and so did the main customer service line. So I kept calling until I got a recording stating that the office had been closed for the night.
Because of the time difference I tried calling the states to see if there was a database that they could...
read full review »I recently had the misfortune of renting an automobile from Avis at Sanford Airport Florida. I arrived a day early and secured the only car available, an SUV for 1 day as I had a mid sized car reserved thru them( Avis)for the next 6 days. I was told that if I returned the next day I could secure my reserved midsize and would only incurr the upsized SUV rate for the 1 day. After driving 1.5 hours back to the airport the next day I was told by the counter manager that there wasn't any midsize available and I could wait until one came in or I could keep ther SUV for the entire 6 days and not be...
read full review »Avis strikes me as a totally average, ho-hum, who cares kind of car rental company. Their check-in service is about average, their rates worse than average, their check-in a bit better than average. Their strong point is catering to the corporate account traveler, but for every business perk they offer, there's a "gotcha" for the leisure travel crowd. Their fleet is utterly average and uninteresting, and without strong price incentives, I just don't see a compelling reason to book a rental car with them. They just don't try hard enough.
Avis certainly doesn't try very hard on price. Their rates...
read full review »Avis has been my rental car provider of choice for over 20 years for the following reasons:
Their prices are lower than Hertz 95% of the time and I do not rent from the so-called discount rental companies due to bad experiences I have had with them (Dollar, National, Thrifty, Budget and Enterprise). Won't go into details about these other companies here, but have been given a car without air conditioning in 100 degree weather: been charged for scratches on a car that were there when I rented the car, been told I had no reservation even though I printed out my confirmation and handed it to them,...
read full review »I took the time to reserve a car on Avis' website for a recent trip to Denver. When I arrived at their location the clerk told me "we don't have a car in that class available, you can wait while we try to locate one and clean it, or you can upgrade to a hummer h3 for $15 extra per day." I told him I didn't want the hummer and if they didn't have the car I reserved, they should honor the price. He stated he couldn't do that, so I took the hummer, given my only other option was to sit around while they tried to find and clean the car I had reserved. Presumably the purpose of taking the time to...

100 miles away from Slat Lake City, where we rented the car we had a blow-out. We called the supposed 24/7 roadside assistance line on Avis' agreement folder. They did not have anyone that could come out to assist us. They suggested that we could drive on the donut for 3000 miles. On 80 mph speed limit roads that was not an option. The next suggestion was that they provide info on the nearest place we could get a new tire. The place they sent us to was 50 miles away and when we got to the address found that it hadn't been Big O Tires for 2 or 3 years. We were lucky. There were...

We were told "the car's in the shop" (it wasn't); "we had the car searched" (another division of AVIS confirmed that they didn't); "we'll place the car on hold to be searched" (it wasn't --- it was sent to Palm Springs Budget where it was promptly rented out because no hold had been placed, no information kept on file); "we'll call you". They didn't.
We take responsibility for leaving the camera. But the constant lies we...

On Wednesday April 15th I rented a car from downtown Avis car rental for 5 days. My husband and I were going out of town that Thursday. I requested a compact car but they only had a ugly vehicle and a PT Cruiser, which neither of us care for the cruiser but it was the lesser of 2 evils. The car was dirty from the start and I didn't really pay how nasty the back seats were, they had some very nasty and disgusting stains on them that I didn't noticed till we left the lot. I told my husband to go back to the lot so I could let the man know the condition of the seats and he was like "I know"...

Recently rented from Avis Orlando on a multiple week rental but had to return a couple of days early, Avis used this as the reason to void my quoted rate and determine a new rate, $500 higher. Their customer service was no help and they won't let you talk to anyone who can authorize a credit.
