Avent bottles did the trick!
I received lots of sample bottles at the doctors office, hospital and in the mail, but none of them compared to the ones I bought. I primarily breast fed my son, but bottles were still used quite often. They normailly contained pumped breast milk. With other bottles, my son got gas and frequently spit up, even though he was drinking the same milk either way. We got the avent starter set with both the 5 oz. bottles and the 8 oz. bottles. Something with the nipples and rings is different, and it does not cause nearly as much gas. Another plus was that they are wide mouth, shorter bottles which made cleaning a breeze. The company has a good breast pump that attaches to the bottles, or you can use a Medela pump and a converter ring (fairly inexpensive and easy to clean).
Another plus with this system is that it grows with the child. You can use the small bottles to hold home made or left over baby food to take with you, and feed right out of the bottle (there are lids that work well for this). The nipples are interchangeable as the child grows for different flow rates, and you can get several levels of sippy spouts and handles to attach to make an easy transition from bottle to cup. There are also kanteens that use avent sippy spouts. You can get BPA free everything now.
I recommend this system to everyone!
