Avent Isis Manual Breast Pump Review Summary

As a manual breast pump, the Avent Isis Manual Breast Pump is considered by a majority of reviewers to be “the best manual breast pump on the market.” Working with both storage bags and Avent bottles (even regular bottles with a conversion kit) the Avent Breast Pump is described as “economical, comfortable, easy to use and portable.” With a compact design, the Avent Isis is “convenient to carry around.” The Avent Isis Breast pump is ideal for those needing a part-time pumping or even pumping on the road. Our reviewers do not recommend the Avent Isis for full-time working moms or those who may have difficulties with a hand pump (such as those with arthritis.) Neither of my daughters would eat directly from the "spigot", so I got an Avent Isis because I wanted to feed them breastmilk as long as I could. With my first, I pumped with the Isis for 10 months, until I got pregnant again and my milk production went into the toilet. With the second, I pumped for... read full review »

I bought the Avent Isis Manual Breast Pump when my son was about a month old and I wanted to be able to store breast milk in the fridge without having to feed on demand.

I was following the directions perfectly and had the hardest time trying to get it to work.  It has a major problem with suction. ...

I am the mother of 4 kids, all of whom have been breast fed exclusively!  I have owned many breast pumps, including the famous Mendela Pump in Style.  I have gotten better result from the Avent Isis Manual than any other.  I had read a few negative reviews online, but wanted to give it a shot myself, as most of the reviews were great.  Things I love about this product is that you can completely control the suction of the pump.  You can pump one side, while your baby nurses, and it is completely silent, so baby isn't disturbed, and you can take advantage of the let down...resulting in more... read full review »

I bought the Avent Isis manual breast pump before my son was born four years ago at the suggestion of a lactation specialist and have used it with each pregnancy since and I love it!  I am a stay-at-home mom and solely breast feed my children until they are at least a year old but in those instances when you need some relief or plan to be away from baby for a while, it is a wonderful small pump to have around.  It is easy to use, easy to clean, easy to disassemble and reassemble and works directly with the Avent bottles.  And I feel this is very nice feature, no transferring milk from one container...

This is the best manual breastpump ever!  I used to work in a breastfeeding related field, and this is the pump I would recommend to all my moms.  It's so economical, comfortable, easy to use, and portable.  I found it worked just as well as my expensive electric pump (not hospital grade), plus, you don't need an outlet and it doesn't make any noise.  I wish this pump was available when my oldest was born, we would've had an easier time.  This is a great find!  Don't bother trying other breast pumps, buy this one!

I have two daughters.  Over three years ago, when I attempted to nurse my firstborn, I found it very hard.  No one in my family could support me and found it easier to advise me to go with a bottle, since they were inexperienced.  Of the few friends I did have that were experienced, I felt insignificant because they were so successful and I was having a terrible time.  My problem, I had milk supply issues and my milk took a long time to come in, the Avent Isis Manual Breast Pump was not ideal for someone like me.  Not for the frequency in which I needed to express milk.

At the time, I was...

When my first son was born, I knew I wanted to try breastfeeding. I didn't know that my baby and I would have such a hard time getting started. When I realized that we were having trouble, I went out to purchase a breast pump. Not knowing anything about them, I read the boxes carefully a chose a dual electric pump. I got it home and pumped and pumped and pumped. After much time spent pumping, I was able to retrieve only an ounce or two. I was tired, sore and discouraged. Enter a lactation consultant, who not only helped my son and I to work out our breastfeeding issues, but also steered me away...

I love the Avent Brand.  I have been please almost all of their products from the plain old bottle to the pacifiers and from the microwave Sterilizer and nursing pads.  I love Avent.  I don't, however, like the Avent Isis Manual Breast Pump.  It is the only breast pump I've ever used so I'm not real sure if this is normal for a manual or not, but it was such a hassle to get going.  Naturally, when you breast feed, you tend to pump only in some special circumstances (unless you work from home and you'd be advised to stick with a hospital grade pump anyway!)  This pump was so much to take apart,...

Let me tell you this is a MUST have if you are nursing or planning to nurse your little angel. I owned the electric pump as well as the manual pump and I love the manual pump as much as I did the electric pump; Fast easy assembly anywhere anytime, the avent bottles attach to the screw ring and you will pump your milk directly into the bottle, once done you can either feed the baby directly from the bottle that you pumped the milk in or you can freeze the milk in the same bottle and then use it to feed later, all from the same bottle, why use bags and mess up the freezer when the bust or thaw them...

I bought the breast pump after I gave birth to my first child.  I looked at the other systems available but they were way out of budget for me.  The most reasonable and cost efficient thing I found was the Avent handheld pump.  Although it may be tedious to do the pumping on your own, but at least you can take it with you and it's a small package.  It comes with a nice, discreet carrying case that helps keep the milk cold and bottles that you can store your milk.  It also has some spare parts.  The only thing that I didn't like about the pump is that after a while after using it, you can't... read full review »

I had problems breast feeding and decided to exclusively pump.  I had an electric pump that was super slow and loud.  I had a friend tell me about this pump, so I bought one secondhand and LOVED it!  It is so easy to use.  I really had my doubts since it's a manual, but it works wonderfully!  Perfect suction that actually got more milk to come out than my electric.  I even used the silicone cushion that goes in the cup on my electric to make it more comfortable.  I used this pump every day all day until my hands starting hurting like I was getting carpel tunnel.  I guess that's the drawback...

The Avent Manual Pump is a great manual pump.  SO nice to not require a power outlet!  It is easy to use with one hand and expresses milk well.  I never used anything else.  The star valves tend to wear out... but just call Avent (number on their website) and they send you replacements for free!  I used this for two children, pumping 3-4 times a day, 5 days a week when i went back to work when they were around 3 months.  It always worked well.  The bottles are also convenient and I never had any problems with leaks.  I also took this on several trips for work, conferences and such. ...

When my first son was born, he would not nurse.  I wanted the best nutrients for him, so I decided to pump for the first couple of weeks, so I got an Avent Hand Pump.  I realized right away that it was a good product for occasional use, but not for everyday, all day use.  It took too long, my hand would ache, it didn't seem to be as effective (couldn't pump much milk), and it leaked.  It would leak at the top, so I would have to stuff a burp cloth under it so that I wouldn't have to constantly change my shirt.  Pretty annoying!  I ended up renting a pump from my local lactation specialist,...

I purchased this hand pump after my plug in pump broke. I was really worried that I would not get enough suction since it was just a hang pump but it worked well enough for what I needed it for. I wish I would of had it sooner and used it more often so my baby would of been more used to using bottles. It was easier to use because I didn't have to look for a plug and carry so much stuff around with me like with the plug in pump. Everything comes apart so its really easy to clean and it attaches to alot of the containers I already had from my other pump. Breastfeeding your baby is the best way to...

The Isis Manual breast pump made by Avent is wonderful. I had to take a trip to Orlando last year and I was going to leave my breastfed baby boy. I only had a automatic pump that worked on electricity. Since I knew I would have a few long hours at the airport, I purchased the Isis pump to use in the bathroom stall a few times and it was a lifesaver. I thought it would not work as well as the automatic pump but it worked just as well. I was surprised! I got almost as much milk out as I did with the automatic pump. For the low price, you can't beat it. It also came with a few Avent bottles and nippes...
