Avent Isis Manual Breast Pump Review Summary

As a manual breast pump, the Avent Isis Manual Breast Pump is considered by a majority of reviewers to be “the best manual breast pump on the market.” Working with both storage bags and Avent bottles (even regular bottles with a conversion kit) the Avent Breast Pump is described as “economical, comfortable, easy to use and portable.” With a compact design, the Avent Isis is “convenient to carry around.” The Avent Isis Breast pump is ideal for those needing a part-time pumping or even pumping on the road. Our reviewers do not recommend the Avent Isis for full-time working moms or those who may have difficulties with a hand pump (such as those with arthritis.) I have two daughters.  Over three years ago, when I attempted to nurse my firstborn, I found it very hard.  No one in my family could support me and found it easier to advise me to go with a bottle, since they were inexperienced.  Of the few friends I did have that were experienced,… read full review »

I used the Avent breast pumps about 3 years ago with my first son and I really don't like the pump system. Although it is easy to put together it also comes appart at the most inopportune times. When you are pumping, if you squeeze the handle too hard, there is a small vent piece inside that will… read full review »

Neither of my daughters would eat directly from the "spigot", so I got an Avent Isis because I wanted to feed them breastmilk as long as I could. With my first, I pumped with the Isis for 10 months, until I got pregnant again and my milk production went into the toilet. With the second, I pumped for 5 months, then dried up inexplicably. I think it was the stress. But this is a very easy pump to use. I have overly-large breasts, and I had to take the rubber thing out of the horn because it wouldn't get good suction, but with it out, it was fine. I used to have contests to see how long I could… read full review »

This is the best manual breastpump ever!  I used to work in a breastfeeding related field, and this is the pump I would recommend to all my moms.  It's so economical, comfortable, easy to use, and portable.  I found it worked just as well as my expensive electric pump (not hospital grade), plus, you don't need an outlet and it doesn't make any noise.  I wish this pump was available when my oldest was born, we would've had an easier time.  This is a great find!  Don't bother trying other breast pumps, buy this… read full review »

I bought the breast pump after I gave birth to my first child.  I looked at the other systems available but they were way out of budget for me.  The most reasonable and cost efficient thing I found was the Avent handheld pump.  Although it may be tedious to do the pumping on your own, but at least you can take it with you and it's a small package.  It comes with a nice, discreet carrying case that helps keep the milk cold and bottles that you can store your milk.  It also has some spare parts.  The only thing that I didn't like about the pump is that after a… read full review »

I am the mother of 4 kids, all of whom have been breast fed exclusively!  I have owned many breast pumps, including the famous Mendela Pump in Style.  I have gotten better result from the Avent Isis Manual than any other.  I had read a few negative reviews online, but wanted to give it a shot myself, as most of the reviews were great.  Things I love about this product is that you can completely control the suction of the pump.  You can pump one side, while your baby nurses, and it is completely silent, so baby isn't disturbed, and you can take advantage of the let… read full review »

The Avent Breast pump is the best manual breast pump on the market.  Don't be afraid of the price- it is well worth the price and is a great value.  I also rented a hospital grade pump to use because I had a 26 week preemie and was able to pump for 8 1/2 months.  I used this pump on the road and at work.  Very easy to use, milk let down was very quick and able to express milk almost as quickly as the electric rental.  Very easy to clean, just rinse and use the Avent microwave sterilizing bags - pop in the microwave and 3 minutes later -- clean and sterile - ready to… read full review »

Being a mom of 4, I don't have a lot of time for fussing with a product. The Avent Isis breast pump is a very simple and effective breast pump to use. Assembly of this pump is also very simple. Admittedly, I have never used a different breast pump other than the Avent, although I never saw a need for a different pump either. The Avent provided everything I need for myself and my family. It allowed me to use it at home, as well as away from home. It is very compact and it fits in a diaper bag easily. I never had any problems at all with this pump, and I used it both with bags and… read full review »

This breast pump has served me well for almost 4 years.  I use it to pump several times a week and it works out well.  It takes a few tries to figure out how to put it together, but after that you could do it in your sleep.  It works well and quickly.  You can wash it in your dishwasher so you don't have to worry about all that hand washing.  It's handy if you want to express a quick bottle or if you want to pump each day to build up a supply in the freezer.  I would definately recommend this pump to any mom who is breastfeeding so she can have someone feed the… read full review »

Very efficient...loved it... — This pump is so easy to use and clean. It works without any noise so you can use it in your office without anyone suspecting what you're doing behind the doors. It's so small that you can easily fit it in your diaper bag. It was really efficient for me, sometimes more efficient than the baby. It only took 5 minutes for me each time to pump the amount of breast-milk that my baby was drinking at that time. The only con would be you need the use both hands. But again using an electrical model doesn't give you the option of controlling the speed of… read full review »

I have used this product with both of my children. I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old. This product is practical and easy to use. I even used it in the car while we were going places. This is a great system when combined with the storage and bottle system. You can even get a conversion piece to pump straight into the playtex disposable nurser system or any other regular sized bottles. I would recommend this pump to anyone that needs one. It is also easy to clean and there are no tubes or anything. Just 3 rubber pieces and one of them isn't even necessary for the pump to… read full review »

I could never get the pump to work correctly. The top continously popped off, and the suction was never good. The only upside is that it came with extra bottles (if you were to use Avent bottles). — I was lucky enough to have delivered on the Mother/Baby unit I work on, and I know the lactation nurse well. She worked a deal with me about a hospital grade pump, and that has been the greatest thing. It's definitely worth the rent you pay monthly to have a more efficient pump. —… read full review »

I can't really say too much about this product, other than that I couldn't use it. I have arthritis in my hands and could not pump long enough to get anything out. Oddly enough I find that I can pump more by hand, while it still hurts, I can get 3-4 ounces that way, whereas when i used the pump, I could only get 3/4's of an ounce.  I wish I had more to say about this product, but I will recommend that people with arthritis steer clear of all manual… read full review »

I used a hospital grade pump with my first child, but didn't have a need to pump as much with my second.  I read good review about this pump so I purchased one.  It is a fair price for a manual pump.  It was used about 4-5 times a week for the first 6 months.  It required slow steady pumping.  If I got to fast with pumping, the plug popped out and required me to fish it out of the expressed milk.  Slow and steady wins the… read full review »

I bought this when I had my first child. I wasn't planning on pumping but I had to return to work for 2 weeks in order to put in my 2 weeks notice. I was able to carry this pump and use it while at work and it was quite. It worked effiecently. I noticed that if I was too full and needed relief this pump worked great. I would highly recommend this pump for the price. It has some small pieces that get lost easily but all in all it is a great… read full review »
