I was given the Avent bottles as a present.  Before using them I found out that many baby bottles contain BPA--a toxic chemical in plastic that leaches into the food or drink that's in it after washings or heating them and is very harmful to babies.  (Please do your research on BPA!)  I called Avent to ask what kind of plastic their bottles are made from and they told me polycarbonate, which is the worst plastic and contains BPA, and I did not like how the representative seemed to not care that they used this harmful plastic.  One way of knowing if the bottle you are using contains BPA is looking at the bottom of the bottle for the recycling symbol.  If it has the number 7, it's made of polycarbonate. Discard it! Plastics with the recycling labels #1, #2 and #4 are safer choices and do not contain BPA.  Plastics with the recycling labels #3, #6 and #7 are not safe plastics.  Another way of knowing if the plastic is harmful is if it's clear.  Clear plastics are an indication it's made of polycarbonate.  Translucent or smokey plastic is a safe bet the plastic does not contain BPA. I myself use the Born Free bottles which are BPA free.  They have a honey color tint to them.  They cost more, but my baby's health is worth it!

Avent does have a BPA free line of bottles ... goto amazon.com and check "avent bpa" as a search.
