When last we met (last review) I was beginning a 10-day course of Prednisone in addition to a broad spectrum antibiotic for a mystery itch that fingernails had turned into a war zone. As I was leaving the office, my doctor told me to discontinue using the Hydrocortisone Cream (Cortaid) he had temporarily recommended. "Too much steroids", he said. He recommended almost any non-steroidal anti-itch cream our lotion. I picked up Aveeno Anti Itch Cream: Calamine & Pramoxine HCl 1 oz Cream. Aveeno Anti Itch Cream combines the cooling and drying properties of Calamine 3% with the external analgesic action of Pramoxine HCl 1. 0%; Camphor 0. 47%. Inactive ingredients include: Water; Glycerin; Distearyldimonium Chloride; Petrolatum; Isopropyl Palmitate; Cetyl Alcohol; Dimethicone; Sodium Chloride; Oat (Avena Sativa) Flour. Aveeno Anti Itch Cream: Calamine & Pramoxine HCl 1 oz Cream is a concentrated anti-itch cream providing fast, temporary relief of the itching and pain associated with many minor skin irritations such as poison ivy/oak/sumac, insect bites, chicken pox....and of course my hairy chest mystery itch. It's soothing going on and although the appearance of Calamine and the scent of camphor can be detected while applying, they both disappear by the time you rub it in. I guess what's important to you (and me) is that it works. In fact it works rather nicely. Each application provides about 3 hours of relief. And, trust you me, when your chest feels like it's on fire 3 hours seems like forever. Fortunately as the course of Prednisone kicked in, the fire died down. **Closing Thought & Epilogue** The biopsy and cultures came back negative. Further tests for viral and fungal infections did nothing more than ding my insurance policy. His diagnosis was "it was probably just one of those things", which I think is physician-speak for "It's Chinatown Jake!" But then the itch was real and Aveeno Anti Itch Cream was a great help in getting me through the worst of it. I recommend it.
