When we first saw August Rush advertised, it was one of the few times that both my husband and I declared that it was a movie we HAD to see.

Once it hit Netflix, we ordered it and much to my astonishment, I found us both riveted to this movie. As an artist and musician, I found this film to be haunting and delightfully addictive.

The story is about a young orphan boy who is a musical genius in an orphanage. He is mocked because he is different and because he has hope and faith that something good will happen to him despite his horrible circumstances.

The movie then winds through the account of a well known cellist that plays for the Philharmonic who has a chance encounter over night with an Irish musician from a rock band. Through unfortunate circumstances they are forced apart after only one night, but they continue to hold each other in their hearts after that.

The young boy is their love child, and believes that they will come find him someday.

The way that this movie was written was divine. It captures the exquisite experience of those who *hear the music* and who live life on a spiritual plane without complicating it with doctrines and philosophies.

We all found this movie very engaging, haunting and delightful. We cried, we cheered, and we enjoyed the journey into the unexplored territories of this movie with relish.

The most interesting thing about AUGUST RUSH is that there are serious holes on the plots. The editors did a very haphazard job of editing this movie- almost like they had an uncontrollable fit and ended up with valuable pieces of the movie missing. The ending was a bit flat as well......

I won't spoil the plot for you by explaining further, but I can say this- AUGUST RUSH has a fabulous plot, perfect casting, and delightful power to it that precious few movies have these days. The acting was wonderful. And I must say that it was one of Robin William's best roles I have seen him in yet.  I really enjoyed his performance as well as all of the others.

There are not too many movies I feel that I MUST own, but August Rush is one of them. I need to watch this movie every now and then to remind myself of what life is REALLY all about (well, push me in that direction anyway ).

For a movie to be missing this much information and continuity of plot line and still make me want it is quite a feat.  I rated it five stars despite its flaws.

I am so thankful for the ability to enjoy things like music and art- you would probably really enjoy this movie. It has such a remarkable quality about it. There are so few movies that provide such a journey as this one does. I hope you enjoy it if you do see it. :D

Amazingly enough it is not as frustrating as it could have been- the acting, storyline and the music was so strong that it managed to make the holes in the story very endurable! I can not wait to get it someday- I want to watch it again! :D

I am always impressed by people who truly feel and hear music in a way that most people can only approximate. I always think how precious a gift it must be. Thanks for the review...you've piqued my interest. :)
