When my mother started to go blind, one of the things she worried about was missing out on was books. She's always been an avid reader - from newspapers to best sellers to more obscure stuff.  Most people assume that anyone going blind would learn to read Braille. The fact is, it's difficult for an adult to learn, and even more difficult for an adult with diabetes to learn, due to related circulation problems. Audio books are great on road trips, on walks, or anywhere your thoughts might start wondering because there's nothing for it to focus on but it'd be impossible to read an actual physical book. Of course you could just listen to music on your MP3 player. I don't know who it was that was smart enough to come up with the audio book but, what a brilliant idea! I just can't thank you enough! I have enjoyed many stories that I never would have been able to read - do to lack of free &/or extra time, and now, to be able to listen to so many wonderful stories while I'm driving, or tending to the everyday task at hand... washing dishes doesn't seem like such a chore when I can focus on an audio book… read full review »

I think these are one of the best ideas to come along in a long time. Not only does it make my commute less of a pain, but I get to "read" all the books I don't have time to due to working and studying. I think they are a great way to get through rush hour with getting road-rage. And being able to load them on to an mp3 player amkes working out a little more… read full review »

The monotone i can't stand. i'd rather read the book myself so i can imagine the characters voices and appearance in my own head. It's easier to concentrate on reading it than listening to… read full review »
