Atlona - AT-LINE-PRO2 Transceiver Review

When I opened the box, I could already tell that this was a very well made product. It was solid, metal, felt rugged.  I'm not the manual type, so I imediately hooked it up.  I was in the midst of plugging in my DVD player into the component video when I noticed the VGA port.  Thats right! My laptop computer is pretty close to my theater set  up, so I connected it to to the VGA input on the scaler. Feeling very pleased, I hooked up everything else to the scaler.  Once I had my PS3, my cable box, my Wii, my DVD player, and my laptop all hooked up to the scaler, I connected it to my TV via the HDMI out, and to my Receiver using the ever so convenient Digital Coax output. 

The moment of truth, I turned every thing on.

BINGO! I didn't even have to do any adjustments.  It worked beutifully switching between my differnet components, and MY Wii has never looked better than in full 1080p!  I put in an old tape into my VCR (close encounters of the third kind) thinking this would be a true test of the scaler's metal. I was amazed that the colors seemed to be much deeper than the pre-scaled video, and it fully filled my screen without looking short and fat, like it appears when my TV automatically "anamophically streches" the video.  Needless to say, I was impressed! 

Now for the unexpected bonus,  My Laptop on my TV! I had no idea when I purchased this scaler that there was a VGA port on it.  When I switched to the "PC" input, the screen was blank.  Uh-oh, could it be that the scaler had failed me?  I tried adjusting the settings, but to no avail, so I called the folks at Atlona.  These guys were very helpful.  My rep was named Chris Bundy, and this guy knew his stuff. (Many moons ago I was a video system design engineer for an unnamed war profiteering company).  So this is the part where I got to feel stupid.  He went though all of the basics, it everything plugged in? (check) Is everything connected properly (check) Have you turned on the multiple monitor setting on your laptop? (Oops!)  So I adjust my settings on my laptop, and Whalla! Not only was I looking at my desktop on my Big screen, but it looked FANTASTIC!  I had a device before that I bought at Radioshack or something, that was supposed to do the same function.  This Atlona scaler made the junk I got from Radio Shack look like junk some idiot bought at Radio Shack!

I highly recomend this product to anyone who has a HDTV.  It completes your HDTV.  It makes it whole!
