A few years ago, our son and his wife gave us an anniversary present, a trip to Atlantic City NJ for the Atlantic City Hilton. We love casinos, and were newly retired, so this looked like a lot of fun. We stayed for 3 nights, saw a show, and visited several other Casinos on the Boardwalk while we were there. We had a ball, and found ourselves enjoying not just the gambling but the restaurants and atmosphere as well. It was in April, so the beach and swimming weren't part of the fun yet.  We signed up for the membership cards to use at the various gaming tables and slot machines to record our gambling spending and style, and did this at every casino we visited in order to qualify for the gifts they were offering.

When we had been home for a few weeks, we began getting mailings from the casinos we had visited offering us free rooms, free shows, gambling money, free meals, etc. It would appear that the competition for gamblers in Atlantic City is pretty fierce. We began going every couple of months, using our free nights at one or more hotel/casinos. None give a Free Friday or Saturday night, as they are the nights that paying customers flood the casinos. Being retired, we were free to travel during the week, and the weekdays were a great deal for us.

We found that of all the casinos we went to, the Atlantic City Hilton was the best. The rooms we were comped were top notch, sometimes even a suite. We found the casino to be just big enough to give us variety in the slot machines (we rarely go to the gaming tables) without making it difficult to reconnect with each other when we were finished. There are plenty of good gaming tables there, also. Some of the Casinos are so huge, I get lost just trying to find my way around them. When you are at a slot machine or a gaming table, they offer free drinks at almost all the casinos, but more often than not, they give you a small plastic glass of beer, a cocktail, or soda. At the Atlantic City Hilton, if you order a Corona beer, you get the whole bottle, with a slice of lime stuck in the top. No tiny plastic cups of who-knows-what beer.  The bar at the AC Hilton also features Poker slot machines, quarter machines. While you are playing the poker machines at the bar, all your drinks are comped. I consider that value. I enjoy playing them anyway, and this makes it even better.

The Hilton also sends out mailers with deals for coming on certain days. They have  been a beach towel (very thick and plushy, with their logo), a leather designer computer case, crystal vases and glasses, and other pricey items. Free shows are there for almost every month. There are also coupons or cards for $5 to $50 in gambling money for showing up on certain preset days. There are always coupons for free meals at their Buffet restaurant, and the food there is terrific! We get the mailings from most of the casinos that we have gambled at, but none have the great gifts and gambling money we get from the Hilton.

During the summer months, there is a great time to be had at the beach. All of the boardwalk Hotel/casinos have beaches and beach bars, with free towels at the beach. I don't think that differs to much from hotel to hotel.

We can drive to AC in just a few hours from home, and even with gas prices soaring, we find this a great trip every few months. Give it a try if you like to gamble. We love it.
