I am not sure what it was about this diet but it was the only thing I could stick to. I contribute it to the fact that I am an all or nothing kind of person and and not the type that can have just a little piece of cake or something. The fact that it was completely off limits worked for me and after not having it for a bit I didnt want it anymore. However, on diets like south beach, weight watchers, etc where you can have treats now and again I failed everytime. Just having one bite is the kiss of death because once ya start its hard to set limits.
What I liked most was that after a few days, my cravings for these things just disappeared so there was no constant struggle everyday and I could cook those desserts for family and even be around them without caving.
I lost 50 lbs in 4 months. Did I keep it off? Well, no. But only because I got pregnant and had to stop the diet and I managed for the first 7 months of my pregnancy (eating normal again) to not gain it back but then I started sugar binging again and that did me in, haha. I plan to start back up on atkins after my baby is no longer breastfeeding.
Only cons would be that I dont really believe a high fat diet is the way to go long term so I would eventually switch over to the south beach after reaching a reasonable weight.
