Atkins - Advantage Bars Chocolate Granola Case of 12/5 Bars —

With low-carbohydrate diets all the rage, it made sense for Dr. Atkins to create a line of easily accessible food for people on the go.  While a breakfast of eggs, ham and bacon every morning sounds good, I certainly do not have time for that during week, and only occasionally have the time on the weekends.

We've been taught from an early eage that skipping breakfast is a bad idea, and so is getting a fat and calorie filled donut or muffin from a coffee shop.  The Atkins Advantage Chocolate Chip Granola bar has proven to be a great breakfast item for me to grab as I get my children off to school in the morning.

Each bar contains 220 calories, 9 grams of fat, 6 grams of fiber, 17 grams of protein and 3 grams of net carbohydrates, along with eighteen vitamins and minerals.  The main ingredient is soy, and these are manufactured in a facility where peanuts, other nuts and seeds are also used.  Sucralose is used to sweeten the bar.

Okay, so its nutritious and easy, but does it taste good?  In my opinion, yes.  It is certainly not as sweet as some chocolate-covered granola bars that my children like, but the chocolate chips and the chocolate coating on the bottom give it enough chocolate flavor to be enjoyable.  I have not found any odd after taste that some diet bars have, and the size of the bar (1.7 ounces) is enough to fill me up at breakfast time.  These are intende to be meal replacement bars, and other, smaller, types of bars are available for between meal snacks.

A box of fifteen bars can cost anywhere from $20 to $30, so shop around, or look for sales.  My local stores sell these  Individually for about $2 each.

If you are beginning the true Atkins diet, these bars are appropriate for the induction (first) phase of the diet, but anytime I can't eat breakfast (or even lunch on occasion), I grab one of these bars and I am satisfied.  Unlike some diet bars that are chewy, the crunch of the granola in this bar makes me feel as if I am eating something substantial, and the chocolate flavor is just enough to keep me from going after a muffin or doughnut.  I recommend that you try the Atkins Advantage Chocolate Chip Granola bar.

Really good to know - I don't do Atkins specifically, but I try to keep refined carbs at a minimum and I don't have many "lower carb" bars to turn to. They almost always taste strange. Glad to hear that these don't. Thanks!
