Takes a beating, great for travel

5

My Asus eee has been with me for more than three years of grad school, and it's still going strong. I've traveled with it, I swing it around in a thin purse every day when I take it to the office, on the train, or around town, and it's holding up great. It only weighs a couple of pounds, so it's a great option for me, especially since I do most of my work over a network connection these days. I did have to replace the battery once - not because its life was diminished, but because it just stopped working. But both the old and new battery get up to eight hours on a full charge, which is phenomenal. You can't do heavy processing on this machine (no memory-intensive code or twelve Hulu screens at once!) but it really can do multiple things - I often run multiple browser windows, some music, and a statistical program simultaneously, and it can take it pretty well. The screen illumination is adjustable to help your save on battery life, and the keyboard is really pretty good, once you get used to the slightly smaller size.

Best Netbook Out There!!

5

About 3 years ago I bought 1005 Asus netbook. I heard good reviews about the Asus brand, so chose this one over a different brand netbook. I am very glad I did. I am currently writing this review on my netbook and I love it! Even after 3 years, my netbook is running as well as it did on day one. It has a 10.1" screen and a HUGE 11 hour battery life. Since I use my netbook daily I no longer get 11 hours out of my battery, but that's to be expected after daily use. This netbook is great for web browsing, checking e-mail, and playing games (This is by no means a gaming computer, but you may play light games such as Facebook browser games.) It does have a web cam which I use for Skype video calls quite often. The web cam is poor quality at only 0.3 megapixals, but you get what you pay for. The microphone on the other hand is very good. I can watch Youtube videos, but not at 720p or higher quality. With a screen size of 10 inches, you don't need to view anything in that high of a resolution anyway. The netbook never gets hot and barely even warm even when watching movies. For a small computer you would think the keyboard would be too cramped to type on, but the Asus netbook shines with it's chicklet style keyboard. I make less typing mistakes on my netbook than I do on a regular sized keyboard! If you are looking for a netbook, this is the one to buy hands down.

I love this little computer!

5

I love this little laptop!! This was a great purchase! It is lightweight, easy to use, convient to carry around and so convient for everything. I love the computer and this is a great way to carry one around without a huge laptop bag and a bunch of cords. It is also great if you don't want to sit in front of your desktop. We use it a lot just around other parts of the house. The screen and keyboard is smaller than I am used to but I got used to it in no time. I am addicted to this little laptop and would be so upset if something happened to it. In fact I am on it while I am typing up this review! The only downfall is it doesn't have a cd rom but I haven't needed one at all since I have had this. My husband and I actually fight over it when we are sitting on the couch at night watching tv. He loves it too!I would definatley recommend this computer to anyone! It was a great purchase!

Asus eeePC 1005PE

I got this netbook about 4 months ago and have loved it. After cleaning up the bloatware, the startup for this unit is extremely fast for the specs that it is running. I enjoy the battery 6 life, and it streams movies over the internet without a problem; However, do not try and watch HiRes movies with this because it's not fast enough to handle the bitrates. Standard def turns out perfect. Speakers are a bit on the soft side but in a quiet room or with headphones its fine. I've had problems the synaptix functions; for some reason the scrolling and two point contact functions will not work and i'd have to reinstall the driver. It is slow for games but I originally bought this for school/work and for price I paid (300.00 USD) I can't complain.

Look no further than the Asus Eee Pc for your netbook

4

My husband bought my the Asus Eee Pc, in black. This little machine is more powerful than our desktop! We use it for watching movies on the go, surfing the net, programming and movie editing, and games. I love that it fits in my purse or carryon. The cases is somewhat solid (however the side of the touch pad cracked when taking the machine apart). However, my hard drive failed after just 3 months of use, and I lost all of my data (my business quicken data ... gone). The retailer I purchased it from replaced the hard drive with no problem, but talking to Asus help desk was not as smooth as I would like. Parts for the Asus EEE Pc are not readily available, so what one would expect to pay for certain parts are a bit higher or you have to order from overseas (not available from asus). Overall the net book has withstood my needs, including having windex dumped on it and being dropped (I have a four year old). After the windex incident, the keyboard and mouse would not work, but I was still able to use a usb mouse and keyboard till replacement parts were found. Only drawback is the battery, while it never was that great before the windex incident, at 3 and a half hours, now it is down to 1 hour, maybe hour and a half. I would give this netbook 5 stars, if not for the battery. But for the price, and quality it is a sure bet for ridged computing.

all the functions of a laptop without the size

5

Great for students, travel, and taking notes. Only drawback is had to buy a dvd external drive for the unit. 160g hard drive allows enough storage for files and additional programs. Its not a gaming computer, but great for studies and presentations. Great long battery life, allows for sitting through a conference without recharging, have had up to 8 hours life. Perfect for international travel, small enough to fit in a carry-on or packed into a large purse. This is a great unit for a busy lifestyle. Great for businesses as well for a sales person or other employee required to travel a lot. Also great for a second system.

A mighty little netbook

The Asus EEE is pretty cool. It runs at a decent speed, has adequate space and runs Windows XP. It's not the most perfect device in the world though. It certainly can't play video games aside of the really old ones. Sometimes the fan starts whizzing out of nowhere and that's certainly annoying in the middle of class when everyone is wondering who the heck is running heavy machinery. Another issue with this laptop is it's shiny finish. It looks good in pictures, but once you get your hands on it you realize this baby is a magnet for fingerprints. Yikes! The screen is pretty small, the thing can honestly fit inside of your backpack. I would say it's around the side of a notebook. Still though it's a decent laptop, and a handy simple email machine. Not the fastest thing around but definitely gets the job done! Its likely that if you just need a simple on to go computer this is the product for you.

Asus Eee 1005 netbook rocks!!!!!

5

I have had this netbook for a while now and its just plain awesome. Currently I am running windows 7 on it and it works fabulously. The battery life is great. Web browsing can go for 7+ hours and just typing stuff on Word can go for 10+ hours!!! It amazing. Initially it came with 1 gig of ram which was good but not great as i usually run multiple apps so i upgraded it to 2gig and ever since it doesn't lagg once more and more apps get loaded up. This netbook runs pretty hot when not on a flat surface but that doesn't bother me at all personally. The keyboard is nice and doesn't decline my typing speed too badly if compared to regular keyboard. I lalso liked its sleek design. Its great for skyping friends as it has a integrated webcam and stereo microphones. It also comes with this Asus's Eee Super Hybrid Engine and in it you can switch between modes like power saving mode, performance mode and super performance mode which overclocks the CPU sligtly. overall, I love this netbook.

The Asus EeePC 1005 is great value for money.

4

The Asus EeePC 1005 is a netbook with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor. It's the first netbook that I've ever owned, and I am really happy with it in terms of its weight, looks and capabilities. It is basically a notebook that's been shrunk to a 10.1" size, though I have to admit that it can get pretty sluggish at times because it only has a slow single core processor, with performance comparable to the earlier Pentium 4 CPUs. Of course, the Asus EeePC 1005 was never built to run demanding desktop applications; it is simply meant to provide basic web browsing and word processing for people who are constantly on the move/travelers, by virtue of its very light weight and compact design. And it does those 2 jobs fairly well. However, if you are the impatient type who regularly opens like 20 Firefox tabs at one go, and uses the netbook quite often, then I would recommend that you go for a more powerful but also more expensive ultraportable PC (those that come equipped with the ULV processors are really snappy and still managed to remain slim and light with a very decent battery life). For casual usage on the go, I would have to say that the Asus EeePC 1005 is the perfect choice.

Great mini laptop

5

I love my Asus netbook. I really had to think a lot before I went for it because I was skeptical about so many things and in general felt like I was not ready to own a netbook. I am so glad I went for it and I want to share some of my experiences about owning one. First I was very worried about the screen size. It is small I will have to say that but it's not small enough to not be useable. With time you get used to the screen and then it doesn't feel as small. The next thing in line was the processor its a single core atom processor. You can not work it up like a dual core processor but it does the job amazingly well. I had no problems in usage. There is 1gb Ram on this netbook but thats really all you need because it rune Windows 7 starter which makes the memory usuage minimal. I didn't have a problem with Windows 7 starter and I know you can easily upgrade to the full blown Windows 7 if you like. The wifi works great, speakers are good and the battery life is amazing. I get almost 7 hours of battery life which is unheard off. It's amazing.
