Noob friendly DDWRT/tomatoe router

By

from Oakland, CA

Comments about Asus 125M Brand Range EZ Wireless Router included USB Printer Server:

I really like this thing. It was cheap and is very effective. At first it kept dropping wireless connections for the first few days, but after that it's been rock solid, never dropped a connection since then. I tihnk maybe it takes a little while for it to kick into full speed and all. The way they designed this router software wise also is a plus, it is set to automatically reset to default settings if anything ever goes wrong. Most other routers you buy will just brake on you and become completely useless, which is what happens if you ever mess up flashing your router to DDWRT or tomatoe. I messed up and was able to try again after failing my first attempt so I'm really thankful for that added feature. The only thing I don't like about this router is that the antenna feels really loose and weak, not a big problem though for most since you just leave the router there and never fiddle around with the antenna, it's also not wireless N, but for this price, that's expected...

Tomatoe and DDWRT compatible

Comments about Asus 125M Brand Range EZ Wireless Router included USB Printer Server:

This thing is brake proof! I have to say, for those who want a router that is tomatoe and DDWRT compatible and are afraid to try it, this is the router you want to get! I messed up trying to flash this router to DDWRT and it automatically reset itself to default factory setting instead of braking on you, which essentially would mean that you would have ended up with a dead paper weight router in your hands. Initially, the router's performance was not great, we had to reset it once every few days because the wireless died on us, but now it's been running for months without any issues. Our old router would constantly cause lag spikes over a wireless connection and we always had to reset it, so we are really happy with this purchase.

Reliable, easy router.

Comments about Asus 125M Brand Range EZ Wireless Router included USB Printer Server:

I have been using this router for about 6 months, and have had no problems aside from a conflict with my ISP's DNS server when I first set up my network (I just switched to OpenDNS, not sure why it wouldn't work). Speeds are only slightly lower than advertised, and very steady and reliable. I get good signal throughout my house, including upstairs. It was very easy to set up. I was planning on flashing it with DD-WRT or Tomato, but didn't see any need as the default firmware suits my needs just fine. If I upgrade to an 802.11n router later, I plan to flash this one with Tomato and use it as a wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 or Samsung TV. The footprint of the router is good, it's pretty small and sleek. The white finish is pretty nice to look at too. The lights are a bit too bright, but I just keep a book or something in front of it like I do with all my other flashing LED gizmos. For the price, this is a very nice router.

Asus WL-520GU - Awesome with tomato on it!

By

from Sound Beach, NY

Comments about Asus 125M Brand Range EZ Wireless Router included USB Printer Server:

This is a great little router. I've bought two of these over the years, the second one because I liked the first one so much. I use one at home and installed the other one at my parents. Basically, I don't know anything about its native firmware because I wiped it out clean the first day I got it and instaled Tomato (google it) on it right away. With Tomato I can control every aspect of these routers, get real-time statistics about traffic and do all kinds of other useful router management with it. It's also compatible with DD-WRT (another custom router firmware), but I tend to prefer Tomato. So anyway, it's a very stable router, I rarely need to reboot it and never have any problems with it. I sometimes have to reboot it when there's too much bittorrent traffic on the network, but otherwise, I've had approximately 10 devices all using it at the same time and it was holding up very well. The coverage area is good too.

Rock solid

Comments about Asus 125M Brand Range EZ Wireless Router included USB Printer Server:

I bought this ASUS WL-520gU 802.11b/g Wireless Router up to 54Mbps with All-in-One Print Server/ DD-WRT Open Source support router to use it as a repeater to share my internet connection with my brother who lives extremely close to me. First Asus is a very well known product and this router is extremely popular. After buying it I flashed it with DD-WRT which made it an even better router with extreme versatility and usability. Flashing with DD-WRT was very easy and only took few minutes. i had to do some reeading in order to set it up as a repeater but that wasn't hard either. This router has great features such as:

USB FTP/File, All-in-One Print Server by USB interface, BroadRange which delivers 300% more signal coverage than standard 802.11g and this feature was very inportant for me since it gave better reception between my brother's house and mine. The 125 High Speed Mode(HSM) technology enables 135% transfer speed compared to standard 11g product which is again extremely usefull in my case.

If you like to tinker with electronics buy this router and flash it with DD-WRT you will not regret it at all.
