As luck would have it, my husband noticed a coupon on the back of his Jewel grocery store receipt. The coupon was from Ashton Dental, for $50 off any dental procedure for new patients. We decided to call and make appointments for a routine cleaning and checkup.
I was able to get an appointment rather quickly, and it was at a convenient time for me. The office is located on the corner of North Aurora and Eola Roads in the Jewel/Osco Plaza. The receptionist was extremely friendly, and the office was well lit and clean. I filled out a standard "new patient" form, and waited about ten minutes for my name to be called.
Once in the chair, I was given the bitewing x-rays and I must say it went very quickly. It appeared to be connected to a computer screen, so there were only two bits to chomp down on; one on the left side and one on the right. Compared to the 18! times I had to bite down at my Sears visit, I was already feeling optimistic and my body was relaxed and less stressed (which is important for me since I suffer from MS).
I then saw Dr. Meera Narasimhan, and she was friendly and professional. She thoroughly checked my mouth, and the x-rays, and then gave me the verdict. I had a cracked crown on my wisdom tooth that could be fixed (Sears wanted to pull it and another perfectly healthy one). I had a tiny cavity that could be easily filled with a tooth colored resin. My gums were in decent shape and all I needed was a routine cleaning (Sears suggested extensive gingival scraping and deep cleaning).
I was floored at the difference between the two dental practices. I take excellent care of my teeth on a daily basis, and I am pretty aware of what's going on in my mouth. My gut instincts told me that I was in the hands of a professional who was not out to make a buck. Dr. Meera didn't try to scare me with tales of how my teeth would fall out if I didn't follow the treatment plan. Her findings were presented professionally and thoroughly, and without drama.
Finally, it was time for the actual cleaning. I do have to say that the tooth cleaning is a little more painful than I'm used to. The method they use is a high-pressure spray that gets really close to the gum line. I was told that it's a faster and more thorough way to clean. I guess so; but it also is more uncomfortable. Still, it was over in half the time I'm used to.
I have dental insurance that covers a routine visit, so I used my $50 off coupon for the next visit to fix the cracked filling. Again, my second visit was as pleasant and professional as the first visit. I saw a different doctor who fixed the tooth, and she was equally as impressive as Dr. Meera (sorry, I can't remember her name).
It's been about six weeks, and my mouth feels and looks as good as ever. I highly recommend the doctors and staff at Ashton Dental to anyone looking for a trusted and professional dental practice.
