My husband chose Ashford University for its extremely affordable tuition. While it's certainly not cheap at close to $8,000 a semester, it's WAY more affordable than other programs we looked at, from places like Kaplan, DeVry, and University of Phoenix, some of which charged as much as $30,000 a year! Ashford University is also not a strictly online school, and its brick and mortar college has been around since the 1920s, which made us feel better about the online education choice - it's good to know your university's probably not going anywhere.
Their customer service reps are wonderful and incredibly helpful. My husband decided to go back to school in August, applied late August, and began classes just 10 days later, with all of his financial aid covered. They really make the application process stress-free. We also like how the classes are structured: you focus on one class at a time for five week terms. This allows you to really focus on the material you're learning, rather than having to spread out over several classes. It probably won't be ideal for all learners, but my husband loves it. The class discussion isn't always challenging, but my husband's a self-teacher so he doesn't mind. The affordability and exclusively online format is a lifesaver for working adults who have to juggle other responsibilities and commitments. They're also fully accredited, and we checked with several graduate schools, all of whom accept degrees from AU, so we're pleased to be getting a legitimate education at such a relatively low cost.
