It's an egg shaped cheese grater! But does it work? Kinda.
3 star rating

a dry skin sufferer, not impressed with this product, a strong believer in good skin care, always trying wacky things
Pros

traps dry skin, easy to use, not sharp, won't cut you, use on dry feet anywhere

Cons
not the miracle it claims to be, cheaply made, no better than good foot scrub

As Seen On TV Original PedEgg —

Quick View: So it was about 3 a.m. and I watching some mindless TV show and some mindless commercial came on about an egg shaped foot file that collects dry, calloused foot skin as it gently shaves it off. No mess. You can get silky smooth feet without having to gross everyone and yourself out by using a foot file and having the skin fly all over. It was 3 a.m. and that sounded like a GREAT DEAL! I bought one for myself and one for my sister. It's OK but certainly not all that!

As Seen on TV Ped Egg Foot File

This plastic egg shaped...thing is a bit bigger than a real egg. It is made of plastic and is domed to fit well in the hand. When you remove the protective cover, there is what looks like a small cheese grater on there. It is metal with little holes. The idea is to use this grater thingy on your dry feet - on calluses, dry skin, hard spots - and the dead skin collects inside the egg. When you are done, you pop off the grater and toss out the gross skin pieces (which look like powder so they aren't all that gross). Then you snap on the buffer and buff your feet to smoothness.

Naturally, this thing didn't look or work like the commercial said but, for me, it DID collect dry skin as I rubbed the grater over my feet. The grater isn't sharp and wlll not cut you. I used it on my heels, around the back of my feet and on my soles. I don't have calluses or anything but it is winter and my feet are dry. I opened the grater and there was, indeed, powdery like skin pieces in there. Kinda gross. I dumped it out and buffed with the buffer. I used some foot cream and my feet felt fine.

However, my sister's Ped Egg doesn't do what she wants it to. The skin flies all over and doesn't seem to collect like mine does. I thinks she just doesn't know what she is doing. Heh. This is a very cheaply made little gadget that is really unnecessary. The results I got were similar to using good foot scrub in the shower or bath, then gently buffing and applying foot cream. It's a novelty. I'll use it now and then but it isn't a must have miracle product.

My Viewpoint

The As Seen on TV Ped Egg Foot File is a fun little egg that does trap dry skin (at least for me) and does shave down callouses and hard spots on the feet. I have no idea how long the grater part will last. It comes with one foot buffer but you can buy 10 when you order if you want. I didn't want. They didn't offer replacement graters. This also comes with foot cream which I have yet to try. The Ped Egg is ehhh...ya know. Seen on TV quality. 3 stars. Get it if you are curious but you won't be missing out on anything if you don't.

melhope2000, I can totally relate to your experience with the PedEgg. You might as well have been telling my story in your post. I have also had to deal with severely dry and cracked skin on the heels of my feet. A couple of months ago, I used the PedEgg for the first time and immediately saw a drastic improvement in the way my heels felt; they were smoother than they had ever been. And now, other footcare compares are starting to make products similar to the PedEgg. I saw a commercial for Dr. Scholls (if I am remembering correctly the name of the brand) and the product advertised was basically a PedEgg but in a different color. So this little product is having an impact.

Many people love theirs and let me know about it but I thought it was overrated.

Patty, I should have read your review on the PedEgg before buying mine. I did not like mine at all. I wrote a review on my PedEgg yesterday (10-16-08).

Thanks - I've been wondering about this thing - I won't be fooled by their persuasive commercial!!

I just fell for an exercise gadget I don't need. SIGH. Oh well I can always review it before giving to my sister. She is my "I don't want it, you can have it" person.

Hi there! No, I don't have severe dry or cracked skin. I am so glad this worked for you! Write a review. I am sure people would love to read how well the Ped Egg worked for you! :)

You must not have the same kind of severe, dry skin issues I have with my feet if you did not notice a big difference after using this product. For years, I have fought dry, cracked skin on the heels of my feet. At times, the cracks were so painful I could barely walk on them. After using this product one time, it removed all of the layers of dry skin that have built up on my feet. Over the past couple of years, I 've seen 2 podiatrists and 1 dermatologist, tried various lotions, creams, files, etc. and nothing worked. This is the only product that easily removed all of the dry skin on my heels.

I don't usually buy those "As Seen on TV" product. I usually think most things sold on TV never live up to my expectations. However, this product was different. I did notice that it doesn't catch all of the shavings, but that's an easy fix. Given the results, I can live with the minor inconvenience of having to put a towel under my feet to catch some of the skin.

New Years Resolution for next year: Don't fall for novelty gadgets! I love how things like this start to pop up everywhere 6 months later. If it WAS such a good deal, it would remain exclusive! Karen

I really appreciate that when you impulse buy at 3am that you make me suffer right along with you. I'm pretty sure I understood quite clearly how to use the egg. It just doesn't WORK right. I'm GIRLY! Pfft!

I meant to say that. LOL. Seriously, thanks for pointing that out. I don't think Laurie would appreciate being called "he" even though she isn't as "girly girly" as I am. lol.

Or a real cheese grater... lol

mrkstvns wrote on Jan 11, 2008 at 4:27PM

I gotta confession to make. I've always thought "as seen on TV" was synonymous with "not good enough to be sold in stores". Your review really only reinforces my general view of cheesyness of "as seen on TV" products....

joyjoy wrote on Jan 11, 2008 at 12:51PM

That's what you get when you pay attention to commercials that run at 3 a.m. lol You referred to your sister as "he".

DeafMom wrote on Jan 11, 2008 at 6:54AM

Sounds like sandpaper would do the same job!
