Doesn't replace a good pedicure.

2 star rating

a beauty diva, not into rhinoceros feet, very skin conscious
Pros

Can be bought at drugstores everywhere, interesting ewww factor, easy to use, not sharp, won't cut you, traps dry skin, use on dry feet anywhere, removes dry skin

Cons
Might need to use towel on floor, not the miracle it claims to be, shavings fall out the holes (yuck), no better than good foot scrub, Doen't trap all dry skin, Hard to open to empty

Every year I try to get two pedicures - one in the spring when my feet are really dry and nasty from a long winter and another in late summer after they've been abused by going barefoot all summer.  Pedicures are expensive though (about $75 for a good one in my area) and I'm low on cash so I've been trying to do my own.

I have a callous shaver that I got from a beauty supply store that works really well to slice off the dry skin and callouses on my feet.  But I'm also a total infomercial junkie and could not resist trying the Ped Egg. I liked the idea of the egg collecting all the grody stuff that comes off of my feet.

So I got my Ped Egg at Walgreen's for about $10.  It looks like a large plastic egg that opens lenghwise to expose something that looks like those microplanes many of us bought for our kitchens to grate hard cheeses, spices, and chocolate.  It's the same concept, only for the feet.  The idea is to rub the grater thing across the skin of dry feet (before showering or bathing) and it's supposed to scrape off the hard bits and leave feet feeling soft and smooth.

Well it sort of works.  I scraped the thing over the dry skin on my heels.  It didn't feel like it was doing much but sure enough when I opened the egg there were skin shavings (gross, I know) inside.  They were a very, very fine powder though and not big pieces like my other tool removes.  So the Ped Egg sort of kind of works but very slowly as the evidence inside the egg shows.  The other tool takes just a few minutes to remove all traces of dry skin from my feet but the Ped Egg would take a really long time to remove that much.  In fact, I'm not really sure it has the ability to remove that much. I've sat there for long periods of time trying to scrape, scrape, scrape the callouses away but they never seem to completely go away.

Not recommended.  The Ped Egg does remove dry skin but it is a very slow process and no better than other methods.  In fact, a basic pumice does a much better job.

I always see this product everywhere, and I was curious as to how it worked...I think I will leave it alone. :-) Thanks!

Great review! I didn't like the Ped Egg either. The shavings went every where and it just took too much time. I got better results from a scrub and lotion.

Nice to see you back in action, Mama!

That's disappointing. These kind of products usually just leave us feeling mad at ourselves for falling for them, don't they? Great review!

Another one of those - sounds like a good thing deals I guess.

I wasn't impressed with it either. The shavings went all over and grossed me out and it seems it's not for those with very dry or calloused feet but more for maintaining good skin.
