Change my name to Gullible because I really thought that the "As Seen On TV" Debbie Meyer BreadBags were going to be the miracle that my bread-eating household needed.  Instead, I am out $10 and my husband is still shaking his head and laughing at my naivete.

My husband is from Europe and eats bakery bread daily.  Seriously, the local bakery is distressed when he doesn't show up for a few days.  My children take after my husband and also consume a lot of bread.  So it was a no-brainer for me to try the Debbie Meyer BreadBags in the hopes of saving our household some money and not having to throw out moldy bakery bread on a weekly basis.  Yes, my husband eats a lot of bread, but he also BUYS a lot.  I guess he has an innate fear of bread rationing happening sometime in the near future.

Where was I?  Oh yeah, these darn BreadBags.  They are marketed as being an "Active Storage Technology, a REVOLUTION in food storage, that actively works to keep your food Fresh Longer!!"  Yeah right.  Not only did my husband's beloved bakery bread grow mold, but it happened FASTER than if he had left it in the original bag!

I re-read the directions to make sure that I had done everything right - remove bread from original packaging, place in bag, press out excess air, fold the bag over the top of the bread, and store in our normal place.  Yes, I had done everything correctly but the bread still got moldy.

Not one to give up easily, I tried using another bag on a new loaf of bread.  This time, the bread did not get moldy but it did get stale and hard and lasted about the same time as if we had stored it in it's original bag.

I didn't bother trying this on other products such as bagels and English muffins, only because I'm not one to eat those items after they have been sitting around for more than a few days, Debbie Meyer BreadBags or not.   Even if this product worked, I still would have problems eating "fresh" bread more than one week old.

After trying these bread bags, I searched online to see what results other people were having after using them.  Some people raved about the bread bags and others said that they didn't work.  The only thing that I can say is that working or not, Debbie Meyer must be laughing all the way to the bank.  It seems that most people either love them or hate them.  I'm with the latter.
