The Art Instuitute tries to make all forms of art accessible to everyone. From art historians to kids, the exhibits cover almost any form of art you can imagine. The Art Institue houses a world-renowned collection of fine art (paintings, sculpture, artifacts, etc.) from all major art movements, historical eras, and ends of the earth. Whether you want to see Impressionist, Medieval, or Renaissance paintings, the collection is amazing. The photograpy department exhibits prints of nature to everyday life. The architecture department exhibits are like a history lesson of Chicago through its famous buildings. The Asian art department houses artifacts of all sizes, textiles, wood and silkscreen paintings. In the lower level, there is always an exhibit geared for kids. Kids will also love the Thorne Miniature Rooms and the Hall of Armor. Tourists from all over the Midwest and beyond make special trips to Chicago just to see the travelling exhibits. Best of all, members get in free every day, get unlimited access to the special exhibits, use of the art library, and membership discounts in the museum shop and cafe.
