I must confess that -- as much as I like hot dogs or hamburgers -- I have been disappointed with my past purchases of buns or rolls especially made for use with these meats and have long ago fallen into the habit of using slices of whole grain bread instead even if it meant folding the bread around a hot dog. The specialty buns or rolls I had tried before were always made of white bread, seemed a little dry and almost always came in a bigger quantity than I could use right away.
I might have continued in that same mode unchanged except that Peapod had something on sale which I had never heard of before ... Arnold Select Wheat Hot Dog Rolls. (I also purchased Arnold Select Wheat Sandwich Rolls designed for hamburgers, etc. but since the two items seem to be made of identical dough, I am just reviewing the Hot Dog Rolls which I opened first.)
Arnold Select Wheat Hot Dog Rolls are not the same as whole grain bread and in all fairness I must note that they do contain the dreaded high fructose corn syrup among the list of ingredients. Even so, I was not disappointed in this product which was amazingly flavorful and moist. For a hot dog roll, the stats weren't bad either.
STATS:
One roll is considered to be a single servng which contains 110 calories with 20 calories from fat. There are two grams total fat, zero each saturated fat and cholesterol, 180 mg. sodium, 21 grams total carbs, 1 gram dietary fiber, 3 grams sugars and 4 grams protein, in addition to 2% (D.V.) Calcium and 6% Iron.
TASTE TIP:
Arnold Select Wheat Hot Dog Rolls are the perfect fit and complement for Oscar Meyer Light Franks garnished any way you prefer. If you live alone or have a small family, my advice is to wrap some of the rolls directly in a suitable storage bag and freeze them for future use. I will say that some of these also lasted beautifully for a week with regular refrigeration.
