2008
I will start this review off by saying that this movie is a huge disappointment and not 1/8 as good as the first one, Are We There Yet?  Are We Done Yet? is the 2007 sequel to that movie and stars Ice Cube as NIck Pearsons, Nia Long as Suzanne Pearsons (Nick's wife), and John C. McGinley as Chuck, the multi-talented do-it-all.

Plot

Are We Done Yet? picks up where Are We There Yet? leaves off.  Nick and Suzzane are married and living in an apartment with Suzanne's two children.  Nick makes a living by writing for a sports magazine and he also works from home.  The apartment is a bit crowded but they make things work--that is until Suzanne announces she is pregnant with twins!  The search is now on for a house.  They settle on a lovely older home in the suburbs and this is where they first meet Chuck.  Chuck is the realator that sells them on the house.  He strikes you as a bit odd, but believe me you haven't seen ODD yet.

The family moves in and soon discovers after Nick falls through the roof trying to scare off a raccoon, that the home needs a few repairs.  Nick calls a contractor and who shows up?  Chuck!  Chuck also turns out to be the town inspector, a baby whisperer, a mid-wife, and numerous other roles.

My Viewpoint

This movie was a huge dissapointment.  It is a family movie but rated PG for crude humor (and it has plenty of that!) and mild language.  I think this movie would be more enjoyable by kids.  They would find more scenes funny than adults.

For the most part, this movie was just over the top with dumb jokes.  The part of Chuck is over done--it's too much and leaves the viewer saying and thinking...can he just go away?  You know the old saying, "sometimes too much of a good thing isn't a good thing?"  This saying fits this movie plot perfectly.

There are also several boo-boo's in the movie.  When Nick and his son are fishing and they decide to give it up, Nick just picks up the fishing pole and walks off without reeling in the line.  There are other things as well that leaves big holes in the plot.  For instance, it was determined that the house had extreme termite damage--yet they never treat for termites.

And last, the jokes are just lame.  Most of these are in the part/role of Chuck.  His character is supposed to be quirky and funny but the jokes just bring a new meaning to the word cheesy.

I found the movie overall to be pretty bad.  Ice Cube seems to have loosened up a bit in this movie from the first.  He seemed a bit stiff and uncomfortable in the first movie but is more relaxed in this one.  The parts of Suzanne and the kids were all well played as well.  This movie just didn't have a chance with the lame script.  Watch it if you dare!  But you will probably enjoy any other movie chosen blindly better than Are We Done Yet?

Movies with lousy scripts are a big turn-off for me. What I do like, though, are great reviews, and this surely qualifies as one!

We liked the first one too. This one should have been called "Are We Over Yet." Very boring....

Hysterical! This is a case in which the review is funnier than the movie. :)

The first movie was FUN, but you are so correct about this one, at least for our family. Hope you had a great mother's day!

I enjoyed the first movie quite a bit. The second was not as good, but our entire family (twin 12 yr olds and 14 yr old) still enjoyed the follow-up. Nice review, Dave

Anna--the first one was really cute and funny. Watch it first so you will have the background on the family. This one just tried to hard to be funny. Too much of a good thing just fell flat.

The preview didn't do anything for me add this and I don't think I will waste my time ;)

I don't know about the movie but I've got to say that this review was so funny and delightful that I might just give it a try anyway out of sheer curiosity! I never did see the first one about "Are We There Yet?"

I don't think I'll be watching this one. Thanks.
