Arch Enemy Review

formed in 1996 and led by gutarist michael amott and johan liiva (fomer lead vocalist) arch enemy is a melodic death metal band that combinds melody with aggression and technicality.

after recording three albums original vocalist johan was asked to leave the band, aparently johan wasn't dramatic enough to front the band.  soon after in 2000 angela gossow a amateur German journalist and death metal vocalist soon replaced liiva. since the switch the band has achieved world wide fame.

Angela doesn't sound like the typical female vocalist since she uses growls as her primary vocal styling. she can give her male counterparts a "run for their money," she is also one of the few female vocalist in the metal genre to effectively use the growls.

Angela dresses downwards compared to other female vocalist, pefering people to admire her vocals and stage presence rather than her sex appeal.Angela is the "real" deal in my opinion and I think it's great they hired her because she is a talented vocalist rather than the fact that she is a woman.  

In 2009 the band has released their eighth studio album initiled "root of all evil" the album itself consists of re recordings of the first three albums: black earth, stigmata, and burning bridges (liiva's last album with the band).

the band is preparing to embark on a asian and australian tour and marks the band's first tour of new zeland. the actual tour is to begin in japan during the loud park festival on october 17th.
