Legend has it that years ago, when ice cream parlor concoctions were still relatively new, it was against the law in some towns to sell ice cream sodas on a Sunday because the carbonated FIZZZZZZZ stuff which gave sodas their sparkly character was considered to be just a tad immoral and erotic! Alas, people still wanted to eat ice cream on Sundays and so a new treat was added into the mix which consisted of simply a soda without the FIZZZZZZZZ -- in other words, a sundae!
