This was delicious but don't expect miracles to happen!

5 star rating

health conscious, a chocolate lover, into trying new things, a sucker for a nice little dessert, loving this product
Pros

Guess what, DELICIOUS, but smaller than regular Applebee treats, costs only $1.99

Cons
Still are 300 or more calories, also high in fat

Legend has it that years ago, when ice cream parlor concoctions were still relatively new, it was against the law in some towns to sell ice cream sodas on a Sunday because the carbonated FIZZZZZZZ stuff which gave sodas their sparkly character was considered to be just a tad immoral and erotic!  Alas, people still wanted to eat ice cream on Sundays and so a new treat was added into the mix which consisted of simply a soda without the FIZZZZZZZZ -- in other words, a sundae!  This beloved frosty treat shows no sign of disappearing even though it is even more frowned upon today as a threat to good nutrition.

THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN(dae)

Crafty marketing has triumphed again and we are currently being seduced with another new ice cream novelty -- Applebee's Dessert Shooters (also known on the restaurant's menu as Sweet Shots).  These mini-delights come packed in 6-oz. "shot" cups.  They were available in three flavors at the location where I dined today:  Chocolate Mousse, Hot Fudge, and Strawberry Cheesecake.  (I tried the Hot Fudge which was delicious).  As of this time, each tiny sundae costs $1.99 and is the perfect light sweet touch after a major meal.  Applebee's does not and probably never will divulge nutritional information (and that's that) but somehow someone has figured out that -- even though the nutritional stats vary for each type of Shooter, each one contains at least 300 calories (or more) and are high in fats, carbs, and all that good stuff which people have been craving for more than 100 years.

MY VIEWPOINT:

Let's be realistic -- Applebee's Dessert Shooters will never seriously challenge the ten-calorie Jell-O Sugar Free Gelatin Cups or Jell-O 100 Calorie Pudding Cups (which are only slightly smaller and almost as satisfying).  On the other hand, all things are relative and Dessert Shooters really are better for you than the regular humongous Applebee's dessert concoctions so dear to the hearts of ice cream lovers.

Miracles are not going to happen and once again, moderation is the only answer.  The fact is that we can't knock back Applebee's Dessert Shooters every day but there may be a place even in the life of the most health-conscious among us for one of these mini-sundaes as an occasional treat!

TASTE TIP:

To amp up the satisfaction factor and enhance the taste, finish off after an Applebee's Dessert Shooter with a cup of rich black coffee.

These did taste good, but there were so small! I'd need two or three to make them worth my time. LOL

Just noticed a funny mistake below -- I meant to say I HAD the Hot Fudge one and it was delicious, instead said "I HATE" the Hot Fudge one -- WRONG! It was great. Thank God Applebee's is in another town!

You know, there was a famous Black musician and singer (whose name I have temporarily forgotten!) who worked for Florenz Ziegfield at the height of "Follies" fame. This Black guy was a real star but one day he encountered racism when he went into a bar and tried to order a drink. The bartender said the drink would cost $1,000! Without batting an eye, the Black guy pulled out five $1,000 bills, laid them on the counter and said "Line them up!" I've got to say that I wish I could have done that with these "Sweet Shots" -- just "Line Them Up!" and I could have plowed through them all! They are that good!

Good review, Ms. Banana Guess it figures that 'shooters' would follow 'sliders'. To think! I'm still obsessed with ice-cream sandwiches.

I had the Hot Fudge one. It was delicious, I will say.

I have seen these and have been tempted to try them because they look great for portion control. What kind did you eat and did it taste good?
