As a college student with an ample music collection, I can't get enough of my ipod.  I use it regularly as I am walking around campus, at the gym, or just hanging out in the apartment.  The 30 gb hard drive holds thousands of songs, and making playlists is an easy and fun way to make a mix to match my mood.  On the go playlists are great as well, as those can be made without attaching to the computer - great for when i am walking or driving and in the mood for something in particular.  Shuffling by genre is another favorite feature, though I recommend labeling genre on your own to establish categories that work for you.
The video screen on the ipod is of great quality, and I have used it several times to catch up on tv shows or watch an occasional video podcast.  I feel like its a little too small to sit and watch a movie, but if you were in a setting where a laptop would just be to bulky, it would definitely do the trick. 
Battery life is something that several of my friends have complained about, but I think that if you avoid leaving it constantly plugged in (which sucks the battery life down - true for any rechargeable appliance) then it holds up just fine. 
Overall a great product and i recommend it whole heartedly!
