Apple - iPod Touch —

I love electronic toys.  I do not love cellular telephones.  I don't like being THAT accessible.  I love music and I love having my music portable and accessible.

The iPod Touch is generally the iPhone without the phone.  I realize that's a generalization and there are other features the iPhone has, that the Touch does not, but that's a quick and dirty description of the Touch.

The feature I like most about the Touch is the WiFi connection and Safari browser.  If you're in WiFi range your Touch is web capable.  If you've read that email on the Touch doesn't exist or that calendar entries are "read only" and you're hesitant, think about this.  If you're connected using the Touch's WiFi connection, why not check and respond to email via the Safari browser?  I regularly check my Yahoo and Gmail on the Touch and it works flawlessly.  Additionally, since the Safari browser in the Touch is the same as the one in the iPhone, sites are being created to fit the mobile format.  I'm able to bank via Bank of America's mobile banking site.  There are many other iPhone/Touch web apps being created and are found at apple.com/webapps/

Calendar issues?  Once again, if you use an online calendar service such as Google, Yahoo, or Airset, they're all accessible via the Safari browser when connected via WiFi.  If you're using Scrybe that's a challenge.  Right now the Safari browser isn't equipped with the Flash plugin.  I've read that Apple is considering updating that as well as allowing full calendar functionality on the Touch with a future update.  Let's hope its soon.

The music player/video player section is what you'd expect of an iPod.  Sleek, high tech and fully capable.  You'll love it.  If only WiFi were more readily available the iPod Touch would be a great alternative to many other portable email/web surfing devices.  Afterall, why pay all those data fees to a wireless carrier when you can access what you really need via WiFi?
