I wanted a cheap(ish) throw-away mp3 player that I wouldn't be devastated if I lost it or it got damaged. The iPod shuffle seemed a good fit.
I'm very happy about three specific aspects of the iPod
First is the sound quality. It was so much better than what I was hearing from my old mp3 player. Even with the supposedly cheap earphones that come with it, it sounded better than my other player with the expensive headphones.
The second thing I really love is the charge. I routinely get 8 to 10 hours of listening before recharging is necessary. That is great for those long commutes to work on the bus.
Finally, I like that it remembers how far into a song you have played. I have a couple of audio-books that would be a real pain to have to start again every time I switched to them
The only flaw is iTunes and it's limitation of only syncing to one computer at a time. The only music I have is stuff I've ripped myself so I wish there was a way to differentiate between 'purchased' music and home ripped. If there is, then the flaw is in the documentation :-)
Overall, I'm very happy with the iPod though - and I use banshee to control it and not iTunes :-)
