Our very generous son-in-law gave my husband (and me) and iPod for the holidays. (I got a new computer!) We love our Apple iPod Photo (60 GB) MP3 Player (M9830LL/A). This was our first venture into MP3 players and I was scared to use it at first!

It’s a cinch though to use. The circle in the middle is all that is used to navigate around. I click the middle and it turns on. The menu feature shows me a list of iPod features such as music, photos and videos. I just roll my finger around the circle and a blue line moves up and down. I choose what I want from a list of for example artists, albums, podcasts, genre or song. Then it’s just a matter of picking what I want to listen to or I can listen to everything in order or shuffle it around.

We have a docking station for it which is how it gets charged. The battery life is about 15 hours.

The sound will depend on the speakers you have. I have an inexpensive Altec Lansing piece but it works well for our needs.

How do I get all this on the iPod?

I had no idea before I got it so you may not. It is so easy. I do two things. First I put dozens and dozens of my CDs onto my computer via iTunes. I also have bought music from iTunes. Then I connect the iPod to my computer and the music automatically gets put on the iPod. If I add more music or audio books I connect the iPod and it updates it.

The only negative that I have found is the wheel. It is very, very sensitive. I often miss the item I want, let’s say my playlist has “mellow” on it because it has jumped to “new age.” It has gotten easier since I’ve gotten used to it but it is sensitive.

  • This model holds 15,000 songs and 25,000 photos. The LCD display is a 2-inch diagonal 65,536-color LCD screen with LED backlight
  • Comes with earbud headphones, AC adapter, and USB 2.0 cable
  • The skip protection is 17 minutes
  • It is 4.1 inches by 2.4 inches by .75 inches and weighs 6.4 ounces.
  • It is a one-year limited warranty and a single incident telephone support for the first 90 days.

This was your first MP3 player? Wow! It's a great one to start with. I have the iPod mini, 1st, generation. I love it!
