I held out for as long as I could possibly could before I caved into this "apple" craze and now my new ipod nano 3rd gen. is so wonderful that I take it everywhere, and even dress it cute!
Vaguely reminded of the "cabbage patch" doll crisis, I stood in line two years ago to snatch an 8 gig ipod video for my daughter; dutifully purchased all the goodies for it, and happily gave it to for Christmas, laughing to myself that her older brother would be the one to teach her to use it. Even remarked to my husband, "How could ANYBODY fill up thousands of songs on that little thing and somehow manage to FIND them?" Assured myself that I would never use an ipod: too small; too complicated; too useless.
Fast forward two years, and commercial after commercial is coming at me for Ipod. Then I started getting emails from Apple just introducing the ipod. Still uninterested, I followed my husband into an Apple Retail store while we were on vacation, and as I waited for him to stop whining over the llikes of a Mac, I noticed this little, tiny ipod with a tiny screen, BUT, it was showing a movie. The one next to it had "Dirty Dancing," on it, so I picked it up. Thin; tiny; but the picture was as clear as it could be, and I could hear the sound (over external speakers). Mulled this Ipod over for months, but listened more carefully to the commercials and read the ads. One day Apple was selling a reconditioned blue 8 gig for half price, so I ordered it.
Like a kid at Christmas, I ripped through the box the minute it arrived, and followed all the directions to go to "itunes'" Installed that program and VOILA...my ipod was ready to load. Noticed Podcasts were free, so tried these first. Followed directions and simple as could be, I had Ellen Degeneras talking to me from the earphones of my little ipod. Now my brain really kicked in as I realized the potential of this little thing. I "rented" a movie from itunes, and once again, downloaded with ease and sat there stunned that I could watch a new movie. Sure that I would NEVER use 8 gig, I gingerly loaded one CD I liked, and fast as lighting, had a full CD on my ipod. Ran like a wild woman to load every CD I had been juggling between car and bedroom; it held all with ease. Now, hubby watching golf...I stuck earphones in and watched "Juno." Hubby fell asleep before me, no problem; I set a sleep timer and went to sleep listening to "Mama Mia! " Bought an Accord last week and asked, "Is it Ipod ready?" As my husband drove off the lot, I busily found the jack and plugged my ipod into the car stereo. WOW.
If you are even mildly interested in an ipod, this one is wonderful. I attached a big, long red shoelace to it (part of a Mickey Mouse skin set), and I though I find it dangling inbetween the couch recliners, I can find it everytime. An ipod is user friendly, even for old ladies; and remarkably useful. Now the CD's are all put away, and I can use the ipod to listen to audiobooks, watch movies, listen to songs, play games, and listen to podcasts. I bought an inexpensive set of external speakers to let it run while I use the computer, and honestly, the battery seems to go on for hours. Warning: It is finicky, and does freeze once in awhile, but I bought the 2 year warranty from Apple for $39.00, and the unit is replacable while ANY questions or problems are also covered. It is a bit difficult to turn off; and sometimes pops on (use the bottom button to disable it), but I am glad I own one.
