Apple - iPod Nano (2 GB) —

Intro
I held out as long as I could. I was holding out buying an iPod, waiting for the long-awaited iPhone and saving my money. I wandered into apple.com, and looked through the Reburbished iPods, and found iPod Shuffles as cheap as $49 and current generation iPods for as cheap as $199. I thought maybe if I bought myself a cheap iPod for my birthday, I could maybe not just last until the iPhone comes out June 29, but also maybe even make it a little longer.

My Choice of iPod

My kids both have iPod Shuffles, and while those are great and useful, 250 songs songs may sound like a lot, but it's really not. Also, what bugs me more than anything else about the Shuffle is that you can't tell what song is playing on them as it has no screen. While the new clip-on design is great for using it hands-free, I'd still rather have a screen on it.

My husband has a current generation iPod 30GB. It holds 7,500 songs and plays videos as well. Frankly, I would love having one of those of my own, but knowing I'll be getting the iPhone soon, it just doesn't make too much sense to spend the money for this one.

So I went for something in the middle, the iPod Nano 2 GB. It holds 500 songs and stores pictures as well. It also syncs to your calendar and contacts on your Mac, and has some games as well, such as solitaire, Bricks, Parachute, and a music trivia game based on the songs loaded on your iPod. I've actually played solitaire in the movie theatre when I was waiting for the previews to start, because I've seen the pre-show way too many times to still be entertaining. All this for a refurbished price of just $109.

My Usage
For right now, I have a little over half of the storage space used, after just one week, and I've loaded all my favorite music from my laptop onto it. The Nano is smaller than the video iPod, too, so it fits very nicely into my pants pocket while I'm walking around the house cleaning. So much better than the old Walkmans and Discmans. I've also bought a cassette converter so I can plug it in and listen in the car. I have the calendars synched from my laptop to my iPod, and while I can't add anything to it on the iPod, I can check to see what is scheduled for reference.

But my favorite usage of the iPod Nano 2GB is taking it to bed with me and drowning out the snoring going on next to me. For that, it's worth any amount of money.

Its Future
I'm not sure exactly what I'll do with the iPod Nano 2GB when I finally get my iPhone, but it's a problem I'd love to have. I could keep lesser used music on the iPod and music listened to more often on the iPhone, use the iPod for backup, or only in bed, etc. Either way, I'm set for tunes for the time being.

We only got ours about 6 months ago - maybe less and love it. I'm not sure I know what the iPhone is:) My daughter has the iPod Shuffle. She showed me this tiny little thing the other day. Nice job on the review. jo
