Apple - iPod Classic Black Digital Media Player Review Summary

Apple started an electronics revolution with it now iconic iPod classic MP3 Player (black). The adulation for IPod is almost universal and our community of audiophiles has nothing but high praise for the little black box. One stated simply: “…the iPod itself is pure joy.” Still another reviewer said of the slick little black box: “Sound video and image quality are unbelievable. I heard lyrics in the songs I have never before even been able to understand!!!” Apple has outfitted the 4.9oz iPod classic MP3 Player (black) with an 80GB hard drive that can hold up to 20,000 songs and a 2.5 inch 640x480 color screen and a plethora of other notable features such as a battery that can be recharged via a standard USB port. Read what else our community of reviewers has to say about the iPod classic MP3 Player (black) as well as the iPod Classic (white) MP3 Player.

Alright, anyone who knows me personally knows I flat out hate Apple, I've worked on their machines for almost 13 yrs and have a long standing loathing of the whole outfit.  I will, however, bury the hatchet when it comes to the 80 GB iPod Classic.  Its the one Apple product I love and enjoy, I still... review »

I am a music lover to my heart. To be honest, I had my eye on the Ipod Touch for over a year now. The only thing that stopped me from getting it is the fact that you can't just access it from where you are, you have to take it somewhere and use wifi; the day when you can take that bad boy with you anywhere and access things online, that is the day I'll buy it. So, alas, I bought the Apple Ipod Classic 120 GB. I got it in January, and still have like less than a thousand songs on there. Although I think it's a great toy, the thing that gets me the most is when I last downloaded some songs from Itunes... review »

Sound video and image quality are unbelieveable. I heard lyrics in the songs I have never before even been able to understand!!!My son will never use all the available memory. I got him this for his 14th b-day, and he is beyond thrilled , it hasn't left his hand for more than it takes to charge it. plugs in to usb to charge (cool) while it syncs with my PC and downloads new song i have added to my itunes.  Its really easy to use. his is silver and it looks really cool. The ear-buds that come with are not comfortable, I suggest you purchase others you find comfortable (gel ones). I got this from... review »

I had no idea that the battery was supposed to last 36 hours for music, mine only lasted 6.  Someone else who owned an ipod let me know.  I took it to Best Buy to get the battery replaced and they thought it should only last 6 hours also.  They looked it up on the website and found out that it should last 36 hours.  Another problem; I had over 19,000 songs on my Ipod before I got my battery replaced.  I don't keep my music on my computer's hard drive so I had to buy some software to take my music off of my Ipod before I lost it.  Thank the software gods for that because all 19,000+ songs...

I purchased the 80GB iPod Classic right after high school graduation after getting recommendations from several friends. The only bad thing I heard about this iPod is that it can take a few seconds for the album covers to load in the cover flow. And if that is truly the only wrong with it, I can surely manage to be patient!

I don't have any complaints about this device itself. I was impressed with both the audio and video quality. I have almost 2000 songs and a few dozen movies, and have yet to feel like I'm running out of space! Personally, the Apple earbuds that came with the iPod were really...

I got one for my birthday and just love it... however Apple needs to improve thier programming when it comes to downloading music, books, movies or games. At times depending on what I am downloading it can take 20-30 minutes fighting with the program to add to your ipod. Moreover, their online store is over priced and though you may buy a movie or CD it is treated as a long term rental that you may only be able to download once. God forbid your computer crashes, as mine did, you will have to rebuy your games, music, books and movies. And, NOTHING is cheap in the Apple Store!!!

I was against iPods as I was against PDA's, but the iPod actually won me over.  I love having over 300+ CD's all on one small, portable device.  Then, add to that the fact that I can download movies, TV shows, and music videos to watch and you have me sold.  If you order directly from Apple off their website, they will engrave something on the back for you to personalize it.

The only word for the 80Gb Video iPod is AWESOME!!! i have 50 movies and shows on it and over 2,000 songs and i still have not utilized half of the iPod;s capacity. i actually ran out of things to add (For now) its long lasting battery allows for hours of use with no charging. iTunes is so simple to use.

What a great Gadget! Upgraded from mini and love it!   The Ipod Classic is a great upgrade from the mini! It is my favorite ipod yet! Much easer and user friendly than the other versions. The biggest negative is that there is the fingerprints on the aluminum backing.  I am reliant on my ipod at work and on the go!  I am  a busy person, an Every day computer user, and a woman who enjoys quality. I am a technology lover, a pet owner and expect good, fair service. I am not rich, but am technically savvy. I depend on calendar and contact list, and am a pc-and mac user.I am value conscious...

I had a 2nd gen iPod Nano with 4g of memory at first and loved it.  The apple software is great and I would recommend it over any other brand of mp3 player hands down.

At first I thought the 80g would be far more than I needed and would be pointless.  Now that I have one I don't know how I ever got along with out it.  While I still only use a fraction of the space, I love having video on it.  I makes a portable DVD played no longer needed.  I also use it as a back up hard drive for my computer.  Ipods are't just for movies and music.  My iPod holds all of my photos as well as important...

Size does not matter, this palm sized gadget packs thousands of songs with ease. The all new 80GB ipod has an all new inteface which allows you to use coverflow, which is an easy way to sort through your album covers while on the go, just as if you actually had all of the discs with you. All you have to do is use the Click Wheel to browse music by album cover, then select an album to flip it over and see the track list. The ipod is very stylish with an all metal design. Also paking more punch with an all new lithium battery which allows 40 hours of music playback. The 80GB ipod is so simple... review »

The 80GB Ipod Classic Black Digital Media Player is the best Ipod that Apple has come out with to date. It is light weight and thinner than Ipods of the past.  It will store about 20,000 songs at 128kbps.  Since itunes is now importing CDs at 256kbps you will get better quality but only be able to store about 10,000 songs at that rate.  At this point in time I have about 5,700 songs and have started to convert my CDs to 256kbps for my Ipod Classic.  I use the 80GB Ipod Classic in my car which has an auxiliary input jack.  It is a great way to listen to music on a long car trip without having...

I watched the bandwagon grow for years discounting it's true beauty until I had a friend give me his hand-me-down classic (He's a DJ and has more than I can count) I love everything about it, and I've owned players from archos, creative, sandisk, philips and other off-brands and none are as capable or intuitive on the AUDIO side of things as the ipod.  True, others offer greater video compatibility and ease of drag-n-drop as well as many other nice things, but as far as looking sexy and doing what it is supposed to do well, none can beat the ipod especially for large music libraries (I have about... review »

A must have for mothers on the go!

I am a mom to 4. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a stay at home mom. I trek kids back and forth to Karate, softball, soccer, chorus, religion etc. This has been going on for 14 years. Sometimes I go bored out of my mind waiting for an event to finish if I forget my book. Lo and behold here comes the ipod. I can now listen to clear, beautiful sounding music or watch a tv show or movie while I wait.

My 6 year old has a chronic illness. This is really what inticed me to buy. While she waits at the doctors office or at the hospital she can watch her favorite...
