I've had this iPod for nearly *4 years* and it's still working great (minus it's deteriorated battery life). For my money this is still the best user interface on the iPod. I find the row of buttons (back, menu, pause, and forward) above the scroll wheel to be easier to use than the newer models where the buttons are part of the clickable wheel. Additionally, those command buttons have a red light behind them so you can see them in a darkened area. None of the newer models have this feature, to my knowledge. On the negative side, the battery life has degraded over the years. It's down to about 3 hours of life now (and that's with the backlighting off).  In general this is OK because I use it at the office where I dock it, but it's pretty lame when I travel. Other than that my only complaint is that it's 30GB, which was the max at the time, but now pales in comparison to current sizes. My MP3 collection just doesn't fit any more :( Overall though I've been really happy with this version of the iPod. At some point I'll upgrade to the newer video models, but I'll sorely miss some of the great interface aspects of this model.   **Update (July 2008)** This iPod did finally crap out near the end of 2007.  All and all, I still agree with my comments above and was very happy to get 4.5 years out of this device. Sound Quality The sound is good as long as you upgrade the earbuds.

the ipod is one of the most popular electronics devices in this era in my opinion, but for good reason too! the ipod can be used for almost anything, those boring back seat car rides, for walking, jogging, bike riding, hanging out in your room, playing video games, or in the classroom! lol. it is an eay device to work, not much knoledge for technology needed to figure it out , just a computer and i tunes and you can start downloading your music and or video clips. I have one and use it all the time, its almost like my bestfriend. I use it mostly in my truck though because I dont have a c.d player or even a good radio, so I hooked up my f.m reciever and now I can listen to all my favorite music with out having to change the channel all the time, or change c.d.s. theres no need to buy all those pescy batteries eithor because you can plug it into your computer and in a couple of hours you will have a fully charged and opporational ipod. if you want to get the most for your money and love music then I would seriosly recommend buying the apple ipod

I bought this for my son who was just dying for a ipod to keep up with his friends, however its so small its easy to lose and hard toget to down load the songs. I still have not figure out how it down loads . the directions were not included and the ear phones did not hold up. The mp3 player was deffently a better buy . So my advice was /is dont go with something for a 12 yr old that is as little as the 1st generation Ipod..........

i highly recomend this product.  I am currently borrowing it from my aunt because my iPod mini's battery was slowly dying.  It is a little bulky since I'm a college student I like to listen to my music while walking to class, but it was too big for me to put it in my jeans pocket so i had to get a pocket clip, which also protects it.

When this model came out, it was the ultimate in coolness.  Now, its still a reliable worthy player, but the newer models are more flashy.  40GB hard drive means you can store pretty much everything....It can double as an external hard drive too.

This was my first and only choice in an iPod, a friend recommended it to me so I decided to get one for my own. it has great storage space, and is able to hold a lot of memory. I use every feature on it, a few including songs, videos, pictures and I just like it very much. I've also dropped it a few times on accident and it has never broken, then again maybe I just got lucky? But for it to still work great after all of that, I think it is amazing. I've already had this product for a while now, I have never had any type of problem with it. The product itself amazes me a lot, and these can even double as an external hard drive too. I would say that the Apple iPod is very reliable, with a nice overall design. I recommended this particular product to friends and family, and all of them said it was very great also. Overall, I think the Apple iPod is a very nice and reliable product, and I recommend it to any one else interested in getting an iPod for their own.

Ok so i got my first I-pod when i was 12 and ever since then i wont use nothing else for my music. I have all types of I-pod not becasue they broke but because i was given them. The latest one i have had is the new nano with the camera. Better yet everyone in my family has that one just in different colors.   I think the the apple I-pod is better then the Zune, which my father thinks different. Buts funny the Zune touch just came out and does everything the I-pod touch does( btw will be my next i-pod). But its better off not to arguee with him he is old, so he "Knows better". I like the way the I-pod comes in different colors so no one will get confussed on who's is who's. Now that it has a camera on it, it makes it better to get all those funny moments that you want to record but dont have a camera on you. So i think that it is a great device dont get no other. The price is worth it.

The ipod product itself is a great product. I like to use all the features... such as movies, games, pictures, albums, searching options, etc... Great product, but needs to improve the software. The itune software is very limited. Another thing is the price of the songs ... too expensive for me... However, it is the same price as others...

An apple ipod is great for ages 8 and up. The ipods come in different colors and several different kinds of them. i have the ipod vidio and love it, it is small and very easy to tote around. The screen on the ipod has great color and you can hold lots of songs and movies on them.
