The iPhone is a great phone and is a step ahead of the rest.  However, there are its cons that I did not realize until after I purchased...if you are willing to live without these, you should definitely make the investment!  The iPhone does not have MMS texting (picture messaging)... something I use ALL the time so I was pretty disappointed.  It also does not include regular texting in its mandatory $30 data plan.  It is pretty slippery, so invest in a good secure cell phone holder.  I also understand that it can mark up pretty quickly if you drop it - so be careful!  The battery life isn't the best, but, just turn off the 3G network and you are game.  I've been able to go for 2 days straight (initial test so far) and talking for several hours each day and the battery has not yet died.

On the other hand, this phone is a little computer, which means, yes, you have the ability to hack it.  You can then enable MMS messaging above, and you can take videos (you cannot do that right now but the camera is there - why Apple didn't do this to begin with is beyond me!)  They are also coming out with a battery extender (this December).  I will not be the first to purchase as I do not like to be the guinea pig.  Sorry, not for 100 or 300 dollars!   Make sure you get yourself a good screen protector too - I have already gone through 2 and I have had this phone about 2 weeks.  Pretty sad.  I will have to keep looking around for a better company....

Some additional postives to note:  the voice mail feature is particularly impressive - you do not have to dial up to AT&T and listen to a bunch of jargon before you actually get your voice mail.  The iPhone enables you to click and choose exactly who you want to listen to - no more listening to 3 messages before getting to the 4th (the one you actually needed to listen to!).  The phone is very sleek and not too heavy.  It fits in my front pocket wonderfully and it is not bulky at all.  My last phone was super bulky and it didn't look right in some of my pants.  I like that you can quickly lock the phone up without pushing a series of random buttons!

After you hack it, then you have the ability to customize it beyond your belief.  I would not suggest doing this unless you are a rather technical person.  Either way, if something messes up, you can always do a backup/restore from your iTunes on your computer.  Again, seek someone technical ;)  After you make this change, you can do everything from changing colors to getting programs that Apple has not yet made and other developers through Apple have done.

Overall, this is a great "toy" plus phone.  the phone is just the use...everything else is an added perk for sure!  I have been able to use this phone to use the map, i've downloaded numerous free applications and it has already been quite handy.

Go check this one out today!  (And yes, the Blackberry storm is definitely its competitor, but I still think the iPhone is in a rank series all of its own.... I was originally a Verizon customer and switched over just for this phone).

Thank you for taking me through some of the things you just don't find out until after you buy something. I've had my eye on the iphone for quite some time. Haven't had the money to put it in my pocket yet, but working on it. I'd be interested in talking with you about some of the hacks when I do though.
