Apple - iPhone (8 GB) Cell Phone —

The Apple iPhone insanity didn't really reach me until I walked into an Apple store last August.  I'm not an Apple person nor am I a technology or gadget geek, so I didn't really understand what all of the fuss was about... until I picked up the 8GB iPhone.  Then I knew that I had to have one and it was just a matter of time.

Flash forward about 6 months and I am the proud owner of this device.  The cost ($399) really was something that I had a difficult time with.  The fact that service for it is AT&T exclusive was another hurdle since we still had at least a year on our T-Mobile contract.  Eventually my lust for the phone overcame my rational self and I wound up with a shiny new Apple 8BG iPhone for Christmas.

This phone is so much more than a phone.  It also works as an iPod, web browser, and camera.  It is the ultimate all-in-one item for gadget geeks and the random person like myself who just HAS to have one.  I can definitely see where it would come in handy for someone who is trying to juggle a cell phone, a Palm Pilot, and an iPod all at once.

Out of the box, it took about 20 minutes to activate the phone and figure out how to work it.  (who needs an owner's manual?)  The controls are very intuitive although the one "home" button does take some getting used to.  I was soon calling people, browsing the web, and checking the local weather while the rest of the family was enjoying Christmas Eve dinner.  Oops.

Things I like about this phone: the sleek and sexy appearance, the ability to check my email and surf the net while out of the house, having some music with me (I've never had an iPod), and the fact that this phone will join any local wireless network that it can.

Things I am not crazy about: how difficult it is to type out a text, email, or internet message on the tiny "keyboard", can't send texts to more than one person at a time, battery life, the Edge network (used when there is no local wireless available) can... be... very... slow...

Overall, I'm very happy with my new toy.  It isn't practical for someone like me who works just 7 hours a day and lives 10 minutes from work, but I just couldn't help myself.  I needed one! Now that I have the Apple 8GB iPhone, I can take my email accounts, music, phone, and the internet with me wherever I go.  How cool is that?!?!
