Apple - iPhone 3G Review Summary

The Apple iPhone 3G is the second generation of iPhone and our business minded reviewers like it! They report that the Apple iPhone 3G has faster data speeds than the original as well as GPS capabilities, two important upgrades. However, most of our gadget geeks mentioned the battery life of the Apple iPhone 3G wasn't as robust as they had hoped. Still, reviewers are amazed at the capabilities of this smartphone. Compared to the original Apple iPhone, our Mac addicts are giving the Apple iPhone 3G an even bigger thumbs up than they did that one, which they loved. It looks like the iPhone just keeps getting better - and smarter!

The Apple iPhone 3G has officially arrived. Is it worth the upgrade? My answer is "probably". Although my review of the original Apple iPhone was extremely positive, I anxiously awaited its upgrade for two reasons: faster data speeds and GPS capabilities.

If you are lucky enough to use the Apple iPhone...

I purchased the iPhone 3G shortly after it came out, expecting it to be as "flawless" as everyone claims their other products are. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The browser crashes regularly. At times the browser doesn't even load until you restart the phone (so I advise you to get in the habit... read full review »

I've been eyeing the Apple iPhone ever since it was introduced over a year and a half ago. The first generation iPhone was just too expensive and its connection was too slow.

That changed on July 11th (2008) when the Apple iPhone 3G was officially released into the wild. The second generation Apple iPhone boasts 3G connectivity (which according to Apple is twice as fast as an EDGE connection - AT&Ts older data protocol), built in GPS, push email and more. Also Apple and AT&T slashed the initial price of the handset in half, bringing it down to $199 for the 8GB version of the Apple iPhone 3G.

I purchased my iPhone 3G last Saturday and have had several problems with it that you should be aware of before you run out and drop down $199 commit to a two year contract.

While I love the iPhone's web surfing, weather, maps etc, integration with Exchange has always been a sore spot for me so I was excited when Apple announced it would work seamlessly with ActiveSync....

Well it turns out that there are some limits for a "power user" of Exchange.

I have 7,500 contacts and simply put the iPhone is choking on them.  I also receive 150+ e-mails a day, which might be above average but is not off the...

I like gadgets (aka toys). The newer, more useful, advanced, and flashy the toy the more I must have it. I have wanted an iphone since the release, after all the iphone was the newest toy. At work I have no access to the internet, poor radio reception, and no access to e-mail so it is very useful.  The iphone is the most advanced gadget that I can afford right now. The iphone is the flashiest gadget out. The problem was I was trapped in a contract with a cell phone provider that does not carry the iphone. I read that the new iphone was coming out in July and coincidently my contract with the other... read full review »

I think I have mellowed significantly. Otherwise I cannot explain how come in the past couple of weeks I have done two things I swore I would never do: I went to a sporting event (a baseball game) and I bought an Apple product - the new iPhone 3G. Yes, I have finally surrendered to the politics of cool; resistance was futile - I have been assimilated.

Before i get to the actual product - the iPhone 3G - I would like to say that I am what Apple calls "a PC" or as I prefer to describe it - an anti-Apple person. I think that besides their actual products (they often do the work really well) everything...

I was a very loyal Palm User for the past 10+ years, and even when it came to music players, I stayed away from the iPod and was a loyal Creative product user.  Then when the iPod touch came out I finally gave in and bought one and I love it.  So when it came to the closeness between the Touch and the iPhone, I really fell in love with the interface.  I almost bought the original iPhone and then literally days before there was the announcement of the 3G version.  I was a Sprint customer and despite their horrible customer service and upgrade program, they had much better coverage in Chicago... read full review »

I am really torn on my Apple iPhone. It's very cool, and the web interface, search functionality, and all of the applications are great. But. I really don't like that I have to charge it almost every day.  On the road/traveling that becomes quite a pain. I converted to an iPhone from a Blackberry, and honestly, it was WAAY better in terms of holding the charge.  In fairness, I suppose I didn't have fun dice games on my BB.  In addition, even though I am getting used to typing on the iphone, I still greatly prefer texting on the Blackberry. Lastly, I don't think that the phone service is nearly... read full review »

I just love this iPhone. I am a semi-new Mac user and am getting use to how things work. It is fairly easy to operate for those who are not too computer savvy or a techie. I find myself doing things I never thought I would do. I am an official texter now. I surf the web for no particular reason, and use the GPS as if I may get lost going anywhere, and I take and email pictures of the silliest things to people just because I can. The speed in which everything works is very fast compared to what I was use to. When people see I have this phone they always want to play with it. The only down falls...

I've had many phones since I've been a cell phone user. By far, the iPhone is the best. Prior to it, I had the Palm Treo but never got the data package because I didn't like how the Internet was displayed on the screen! The iPhone just make everything easier and has some great apps!!

iPhone 3g is ultimately the best phone i've ever had! At the beginning it was tricky getting used to the touch screen, it just takes practice and very quickly you become a pro. My hardest problem was opening the wrong icons. Another difficulty was the texting/email. I write really fast and shorten words. It has a built in dictionary that kept changing the words i was trying to write! it was very aggravating but when the word pops up, just click the "x" and it will never ask you that word again. As soon as i learned this, texting was super easy! Email kicks right away (for yahoo) however, my bf...

After about 3 weeks using my iPhone 3G, I must say that it's head and shoulders above the rest of the cell phones I've ever had (Nokia, Panasonic, Sony Ericsson x 2, and Sam Sung).  However, it is not a phone for novices despite the relatively low price (for what you really get: wifi, excellent 2g camera, 3G, iPod video with speaker even, music and photos, GPS and Applications from the App Store that make up for any features not already installed like internet radio) are mindboggling.  I predict that this phone will be the model for all new phones in the very near future.  Interestingly, battery... read full review »

The Iphone is the best phone I have ever owned. It has so many features, not to mention thousands of applications that you can download from Itunes, some of which are free. The phone comes with text messaging, a camera, access to Itunes, access to the Application store, a photo album that can hold pictures taken on the camera and ones transfered from your computer, maps, Youtube, quick access to email, Safari, and of course, the Ipod feature. Many applications can be downloaded such as Myspace, Facebook, Google, Wikipedia, Ebay, Netflix, and tons of games. AT&T charges a monthly fee of only $30...

When the first iPhone came out I thought, "WOW, I gotta have that."  Then after trying out a friend's I wasn't to impressed.  My biggest gripe was just that i didn't feel like i could text very well on it.  Texting is a way of life these days, so you have to be able to do it!  The keyboard didn't make me happy and my friend's case seemed to crowd my thumbs.  I also wasn't thrilled with what it could, or could not do.

When the 3G came out I thought I would give it a few months then take another look.  Now, except for a few minor problems I have with it, I love it!  It's really easy to learn...

I had the first gen Iphone and it was great.  So far the 3G isn't that different for me but that's fine.  The battery life is less then before but that is  understandable since the 3G uses a lot more battery and now I used bluetooth for my new car.  The GPS also uses battery life so I'm not that surprised that my battery life is a lot less.

I love the new apps programs.  I tried using the GPS while I was on vaca in New York and it didn't work perfectly.  I will try it again.

So far so good.  You have to see the video on these phones!!  It's amazing.  I watch movies on the plane all the time...
