Apple iMac 24" Desktop Computer Review

I purchased my new 24 inch screen iMac in the fall of 08.  The shopping experience was first rate.  I arranged an appointment time with a sales person and proceeded to tell him what I use my computer for.  We found the exact model I wanted, and discovered it was available online for $150 cheaper. 

When I plugged it in at home, it found my internet connection on its own and basically did full set up nearly hands free. Also, I have the ability to partician EASILY to use part of the mac as a windows OS if I wanted to.  Next, I use an Elgato Eyetv link with it to get all my cable stations, plus the extra digital stations that I can't access for some reason with my cable box.  (not premium channels, but the ones that are broadcast for everyone).  It works AWESOME as a DVR and I never have to miss a TV show again.  It think this option was about $150, but WELL WORTH it since my computer doubles as my bedroom television. Awesome sound and visuals for a non HD screen. 

It has taken a bit of work to adjust to the Mac way of doing things, but that's because it is so strait forward.  Deleting files and programs is easy. I never run of out disc space (unless I have too many TV shows that I haven't archived to save space).  I haven't found any website that I can't do without that doesn't support Mac.  

I'm old enough to have learned on a Mac. My first computer was a Mac 20 years ago.  But I've been a frustrated PC user for too many years.   The cost seems high, but for what I want it for, it was reasonable and everything was already installed and integrated to work correctly.  My only problem is my mouse cord and keyboard cords are not long enough so I'll be going wireless.  Otherwise, this big screen wonder is a joy to use. Strongly suggest going to an apple store if there is one nearby. They are helpful and show you everything you need to know. The best computer shopping experience I ever had.  

Also, I play online games and have a Palm centro and have had no compatibility issues with either.  Mac makes a program called isync to use with the palm for syncing.  As I said, it was an investment....but proved well worth it.  I wish I had bought it sooner.
