Apple iMac 20" desktop computer Review

I have had the same 20" iMac for approximately one year.  Where to begin?  I had always used Windows before getting this computer, but I had had so many problems both with Windows, and the computers that I had run it on, that I wanted to make a switch.

At the time, I was working towards a graduate degree, so one of the biggest requirements for me was that it would be able to run the software that I needed for my degree: MATLAB, Microsoft Office, plus the usual email.  I also wanted to have my music and budget software for personal use, and a couple of games thrown in the mix.

Virtually every program I have wanted to run has been available to use on Apple OSX, which performs brilliantly.  In a year of use, I think it has frozen twice, both times after being left on for weeks (I use "sleep" mode at night).  My HP laptop would freeze nearly daily in contrast.  The only negative issue I have had was a faulty DVD/CD-RW drive, but that was replaced under warranty at no cost to me.

The compact design of the iMac is great to save desk space - plug in the power cord and you are set.  I have enjoyed using the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, but I would not have minded a couple of extra USB ports somewhere.

It is network compatible with computers on other operating systems, I currently have mine connected on a wireless network with a Sony PlayStation3.  All in all, it works great, peripherals such as printers, USB drives, iPods, and cameras connect effortlessly, and the operating system is super smooth.
