The 20" iMac desktop is an outstanding machine no matter what your level of computer knowledge. It has an Intel processor in it making it up to date with the latest hardware and enabling you to do things like run Windows as a native operating system. It has EVERYTHING you would want in a computer. It has a Webcam built-in, CD/DVD burner that can burn dual-layer discs, a very big hard drive, lots of RAM, wireless built-in for connecting up to a wireless router, a remote for using with media center stuff, and a lot of other great features.
The hardware itself is simply outstanding. IF something breaks, and thats a big if, the unit is covered under a standard 1-year warranty where Apple will fix it for you FAST and free. This warranty is expandable to 3-years by purchasing the Apple Protection Plan (which I suggest). I happened to get a unit with a hard drive that was bad in it and had to take it in for repair a week after I bought it. I was only without it for maybe 4 days total. Depending on where you take it (DON'T take it to Best Buy, they will tell you you are out of luck or try to ship it off), your wait time might vary. Other than that one thing, I have had no problems at all. I love this machine.
Just don't buy it from Best Buy. Their people are not knowledgeable, plus they will try to sell you all kinds of other things up from that you do NOT need. This happened to me. When I walked in there to buy my machine, I knew exactly what I wanted and that was all I wanted. They proceeded to talk down to me, ask me all kinds of irrelevant questions, tried to make me fill out a form that I did not need which would sell me all kinds of extended products taht I did not want, and basically made my buying experience a very unpleasant one. I almost walked out of there to buy it directly from Apple online (which I should have done, it would have gotten my $100 off with an educational discount). Basically, avoid buying computer products from Best Buy as they are not very smart and don't know what they are selling for the most part.
Back to the machine itself, if you want a good all in one machine that will let you do anything and everything you want, then this is the machine for you. Sure, it might cost a tiny bit more up front, but you get what you pay for basically. The hardware is top notch, the operating system is top notch (a heck of a lot more stable than Windows and has none of the bad software that affects Windows (well, maybe one or two, but you have to try awful hard to get it)),and the support at Apple is outstanding. Things might look a little different when you first starting using OS X (the operating system), but after a couple of days using it, you will be just as comfortable as you were on Windwos.
